Early pre facelifts did suffer quite a lot from false activations. They did a software update 2009/2010 ish to try and sort the issue which seemed fairly successful. There have still been instances though.

I very much doubt pulling a fuse or the unit out is the answer and will almost certainly show a fault.

Your options are to use some resistors in the airbags, which won't stop the system from trying to fire them and will still damage the unit, but will save the bonnet.

Not sure anyone has tried resistors in the detectors but worth a try I guess.

The correct way is to disable it in SDD but it's not really a DIY job unless you're well versed.

I am wondering if two XF in this discussion with false deployed PPS are prefacelift? It seems the system has restructured in facelifts and maybe there was a reason behind it?
I also wondered that and the fact the architecture differs quite substantially between the two car vintages.
Now of to hunt down the more recent manuals.

Refer my post 67. There is no fault showing when the fuse is removed.

Either you've pulled the wrong fuse then or it's been previously disabled via SDD. It should show a fault if it's working correctly and isn't powered.

I've also pulled that same F36 fuse and as Carpo says no light on the dash. This is what I'm finding strange on what is presumably a safety critical item or is it not classified as such?

It’s exactly like my manual but the name of file suggests it’s for MY12. I thought yours is MY14?
Yes mine is a 2014 but it appears the owners handbook I downloaded is the last of its find for XF 250's. There are earlier versions but no later.

There should be one fuse for both RCM and PPS in facelift models but workshop manual says PPS operates independently from RCM. The wiring diagram shows power supply for PPS and RCM are the same. I am wondering where the F36 or F35 are in the new wiring diagram.
it’s either wiring diagram doesn’t show everything or F36 is not connected to anywhere?

I looked into this a few years ago.

On my 2012 XF - fuse 36 powers the RCM (Restraints Control Module).

Bizarrely no error is shown on the dash with fuse 36 removed - the module does show as not responding in SDD however.

As the RCM is directly wired to all of the airbags and the seat belt pretensioners in the car, I'd consider disabling the pedestrian protection system in some other way than pulling fuse 36.

It seems yours is a facelift. According to manual you should have a F35 installed for SRS but it’s missing in the photo.

Curios, I've just looked in my owner’s handbook and it says there is no fuse at F36 or to be ultra precise - -. However when I actually look there is indeed a red 10amp fuse. My car is a 2014 year and I wonder whether Jaguar purposely omitted this detail.

Attached is a cropped pic where you can hopefully see fuse 36 amongst others.

Out of interest Carpo what year is your car?

You have a F34 installed which is not listed in my12 manual. What’s in your hardcopy manual for F34?

In F34 I have, GSM, CMM listed whatever they may be. Additionally it is supposedly a 10 amp red fuse.
For F35 I have , PCV, W2A listed again whatever they may be. This time it is supposedly a 5 amp tan fuse.
For F36 I have nothing whatsoever listed.

The owner's handbook appears to be 2013.
In practice in all those positions I have 10 amp red fuses..
Doesn't make any sense at all.

GSM: gear selector module
CMM: communications media module
PCV: Fuel Pressure Control Valve
W2A: no idea! water in fuel sensor?!

I just checked mine and there is no F35 nor F34 and I know my PPS works because in the past I disconnected one of impact sensors and I got check PPS.

I am surprised how different are fuse boxes and I guess harnesses should be like that.
So far it seems:
-Pre-facelifts: there are F35 and F36. They have a dedicated PPS module.

-Facelifts: they have F36 only that is shared between PPS and RCM ( same module). F34 and F35 are not in use between 2012-2013? And from 2013 they have used them for something else.

My conclusion is that you cannot remove F36 on facelifts unless you want to disable Airbags as well and the only way to tell is airbag light will not come on for few seconds when you switch the ignition on.
On prefacelifts You probably can use this method because RCM has a separate fuse. but that doesn’t make sense that there is no warnings becsue unlike airbag, you cannot check it during start up.

Does your airbag light show up for few seconds during start up and then goes off?

Hard to work out a definitive spec when actual car and handbooks are at odds with one another. Also seems as if the 2014 year needs a handbook that doesn't exist. I will be fiddling with things shortly and see if that yields any extra detail.

No, there's no alarms, warnings, anything out of the ordinary. And mine is a facelift version and I do have both F35 and F36, so the plot thickens. What I have seen on this forum or maybe another is that very often the fuse layout bears no resemblance to the handbook.

Is there a difference between Sportbrake and saloon fuse boxes like there is with the CJB maybe?..

Not sure Pete but this is a photo of my 2014 layout which bears no resmblance to what my owners handbook suggests I should see. The 3 off 10 amp fuses are F34,35 and 36.

🤔
My manual also shows F36 for PPS and F35 for SRS. It should have changed further down the line as in MY2012 there is not F35.

However the the handbook could be based on early facelifts and it could be correct.

Which is MY yours?
