Hey Everyone-

Recently my 2011 Jaguar XJL x351 is experiencing some very odd starting problems.
Every morning for the past two weeks, the XJ will try to start when the start/stop button is pressed, then kicks out and does not start.
After about the 4-5th try, it will start and idle, although the classic 'Restricted Performance' and 'Cruise not available' warnings show up, and idles very rough.
It will idle rough, and experience this starting problem consistently until the engine temp reaches normal operating temperature (middle of gauge) after it reaches this temperature, I restart the car and it runs smooth as butter. I can even let the engine cool all the way down again (ex. while I'm at work) and it will start perfectly- until the next morning.

I experienced this problem last year at one point- and the only fix was to blow hot air into the driver's side of the engine bay. With a good sized blower, only about 30 seconds was enough. So it's not the entire engine bay- just a part- or sensor. I think the heating of the engine just warms it up, and that gets it going.

Last time, I did an intake cleaning- unplugged the MAF sensors and cleaned the air intake filters. Thats fixed it for the last 10 months now... no problems.

I figured it must just be a bad MAF sensor on that side of the bay, so I replaced it- but no go.

Anyone heard of an issue like this before? Open to any suggestions. I will be scanning it with my JLR SDD this weekend.

Cheers

I presume this is the 5.0 V8 petrol? Supercharged or NA? You must have the DTC codes as without it's a wild guess - you can't be replacing sensors and mechanicals with guesswork and retain a healthy bank balance unless by luck you happen to replace what was faulty - and that's no way to diagnose an engine issue.
