When I first bought my XF S nearly 4 years ago it had brake judder from high speed but I thought no problem, I’ll fix that. Ahem. It’s taken up till now to fix 😂.
3 years ago I replaced all 4 discs with Brembo aftermarket ones and used EBC red superstreet ceramic pads.
But I’ve since had other problems with this car that the brake judder was a minor blemish and ignored. I could write a book on DPF systems and split inlet manifold covers…
When being TÜV‘ed this April I was advised to replace the front lower control arm inner bushes as they were worn and splitting. That’s another story with an independent workshop I used in England but they finally got the job done and tracked and trued all 4 wheels. Brake judder gone. Completely.
I can now brake hard from 250 km/h with no judder at all. Very happy.
Now onto the next job. Another oil leak from the recently replaced inlet manifold covers or related pipework…I should have paid the Jaguar labour rates (€4000) and got the job done properly rather than getting an independent garage do it for £1000 and have loads of trouble afterwards. Rant over.
I am glad it’s fixed. Was it the curved arm and was it the only one that was replaced?

Just an update for this thread; granted its on an XJR with a double piston caliper - but no issues with the EBC Yellow Stuff pads on EBC Grooved discs.

I have been driving my XJ as fug as smuck for quite a while now, thinking the dreaded brake judderment had cured itself and gone away. Naw……four or five days ago it returned for no apparent reason.

Gubberit….!

Would hope bushes ok at only 21k. EBC brake pads, Ultimax…….jury is oot on these.
Hi Kev, been using the Ultimax for years, I have found them to be low dust, good stopping power and a lot cheaper than the Red Stuff I used before, in fact I can't tell any difference between them. Phil

Totally agree re. the MUCH lower dust, Phil, but have had one or two instances of heavy braking on them, and now understand what “brake fade“ may consist of. Did not promote ultra confidence bits.

Must admit Kev, I've never suffered fade with these pads and I don't hang around, it must be you young tearaways, we know what you're like when you get the wind in your kilts! Phil

I wanted both forward lower control arm inner bushes replacing and bought 2 bushes off Autodoc for £66. The garage in Blighty said they normally change the complete arm (I wish they’d told me that before I sourced the bushes) so I then bought 2 complete control arms with bushes (OEM Lemförder) off Autodoc again for £95 a piece. Jaguar charge around £420 😂 each. Fitted and all brake judder had gone! And yes, the curved forward lower arm or banana arm. Part number C2Z10052.

Using EBC Ultimax......no brake judder.
Here we are, just under two years later, and the brake judder is utterly far king woeful….! 4.5 hour 200 mile round trip yesterday to That Aberdeen to get my turntable serviced….don’t ask. Have noticed really quite substantial brake FADE and slight wobble of steering wheel under normal or slightly heavy braking. Was able to demonstrate a ridiculous steering wheel oscillation to a surprised wife from VERY LOW SPEEDS…! The fact that it is now so clearly visible really concerns ma wee heid. Ultimax pads have done about 12k miles, original 2014 discs are coming upfor 23k miles.
Utterly annoyed……first thing I suppose is get the slide pins cleaned……AGAIN……a job my aging body doth not allow. Another garage bill……..
On the subject of brake fade, will deffo NOT be using EBC Ultimax pads again. Funnily enough, they seem to improve in the wet…..?

Flung a cheap set of juratek pads and discs on the jag after the EBC pads wore out. Really very little judder so far.

Get your discs checked for run-out Kev.

And also get the front suspension bushes checked. If you haven’t had yours done yet, I think they must be nearly due now as they seem to be more age than mileage dependent.

Shuch…..forgot aboot them James…..you mentioned before. But are these not the kind of things MOT should throw up, which it passed last week as reported…?

Wotsha Lochy……..my ultimate aim is for ZERO vibration. These are supposed to be LUXURY cars…….the fact there is no JLR interest in this speaks fekn volumes……they know ye know but not telling us.
