Interestingly the fuse on the XF for the installed seat is 20A, I have no idea on the actual current draw but using the Watts = Amps x Volts formula they could be upto 240 watts which is much higher than the 27 watts of the ebay items.

You can usually expect a fuse to be rated at double the anticipated load where surge is a possibility. On the basis of those figures, I'd expect around 150 watts max. The XF heaters work reasonably well on the minimum setting which is probably somewhere between a third & a half of the current on setting 3.

I have just contacted someone in the sellers feedback list who bought the set and here is my question and his response.

Hi,

Sorry to bother you but I see you bought a set of heated seat pads (was checking the sellers feedback)
Can I ask if they are good at heating and were they easy to install? Lastly did you install them in leather or cloth seats.
I am considering them for my car.

Thanks in advance.

response

"They were easy to install. I installed them in cloth, but I am ordering another set for my other car, which has leather. For the price they work great."

I bought a set of heated pads from a chinese seller and they look very well made, they have 3 heat settings and a blue lit switch block, unfortunately when I took the drivers seat out to fit the pads there is stitching across the squab right where I needed to fit the pad, I played about for around 2hrs and finally gave up and put the seat back in:(.
I decided they will fit in my old truck seats so thats where they are going.

The XF seat heaters are thermostatically controlled. On the lowest setting they might only be on half the time. 27 watts might just mean they take a while to warm up. The seat & your backside will retain quite a lot of the energy.

(8 posts & this thread is still on topic.............is that another forum record today?):D

PM sent to assist.

The thought of trying to get Peletier heating and cooling seats working in my XF can still induce a CI Dreyfus set of ticks.
Normal pads are happy day :)

Would certainly make senses as there's no room in such a small box for a complete condenser, compressor tyre set up.

Jag make it real hard to fit those seats in cars not oem equipped. You need configuration files that they won't supply and even the power harness comes from the rear as opposed to normal seats from the centre. Sad as the likes of BMW wouldnever do anything so difficult. You can just plug extensions into the harness, ask a dealer to recode, etc.

This need for retrofit will certainly arise more in the future as people swap out interiors (like I did) as Jag use different systems of heating and different looms aftermarket retrofits will be way the best solution.

i researched them a lot before I went another route, but the best have 3 heat settings, temperature control, colour coded lights and very discrete OEM style buttons to fit in the seat. Nothing worse than a 80's style switches in a luxury car.

I have been considering the switch actually going into the seat control block, that way it wouldn't be on show on the dash, much more discrete.

Overall though, taking the seats apart does't seem like a fun job so I may leave it alone.

The switch would certainly go in the seat as you would not want it on the dash or centre console. Can't go with the existing seat adjusters as that's a completed bolt on switch unit. There are however other places on the seat side trim that you could drill though and fit them.

Alfie,

Thanks for the note, I never got round to ordering any but was still considering it.[/QUOTE

Yes it ended up being a no go really unless you either cut the pad and put two halves in the bottom squab,or pick out the stitching and re-stitch after fitment.

The ones I got can be cut but only to shorten them so you would have to use 2 pads in the bottom and another for the back, unfortunately after spending 2hrs on the bottom squab I lost the will to live :(so never got round to checking whether the back can be done.

I think the best bet is to find another seat that is heated,.....as you can just retro fit the heated seats in as the loom is already in the luxury version and on connecting it up the dash will find it and bring up the heating controls, this was told to me by another member on the darkside last year.;)

Regards

Alfie

I've taken seats apart before, it's normally just a load of hog rings holding the leather onto the frame. A top tip when re-assembling is to use small cable ties, you can tighten them up better/easier and if you ever have to remove them again you just snip them off and you're done.
