Seriously considering a F Type 3.0 S or an XK-R next year

 

Have a drive of rhe V6S. I was seriously disappointed. Way too hard a ride. Way too shouty. As a weekend car, it'd be great, but not an everyday driver.

 

I drove a V6 S and was also disappointed. Too loud for long term use and in everyday driving didn't feel that fast, initial urge not much different to XFS.

Loved the V8 though, the noise and madness felt in the right place, it matched the power and speed.

 

Funds won't stretch to. A V8 F Type so that's way an XKR is an alternative.

 

Make sure you're happy with the screen on the XK. It's a step back from the XF. It really sounds like you're after an XFR to me.

 

There is the XFR as a further option, but a serious mid life crisis requires 2 seats or a +2 at most and preferably a coupe.

Still time will tell, but need to find a new job first.

Anyone need a top class salesman? Sturgess perhaps?

 

Find new job drive all buy one, roll on next year.

I'm sorry but if I bought a car like this I'd want to hear the thing. When I had the pleasure of borrowing a V6S convertible from NWJ for a long weekend after ordering my XF I absolutely loved it. The noise, the handling, the sensation of driving a car like that around North Wakes was a thrill.

I also loved my V6S, admittedly it was a weekend car so absolute comfort wasn't needed. The noise is great when you want it to be, turn off the exhaust and I think it's pretty tame. If I bought another new one it would be a V6S, if used, I'd go for a V8 as they have lost a shed load of money so make the better second hand buy.

 

My V6S coupe is quite civilised and comfortable with Dynamic off and the active exhaust off, the ride is very much the same as my XFR and the exhaust is not at all loud or obtrusive. Louder than the XFR but not by much. However, put it in Dynamic and the ride firms up significantly, a lot more than Dynamic in the XFR, and the active exhaust turns on by default and becomes a bit more "shouty". I like the exhaust on, so my default setting is Dynamic off and exhaust on. I also love the "tiptronic" gearshift in S mode, it just feels better to me than using the paddles, maybe that's nearly 40 years of driving manuals coming to the fore.
The V6S is just as quick as the XFR from a standing start to around 70 mph, and then the XFR starts to pull away thanks to the mid-range torque the 5.0 SC is renowned for. But the V6S is plenty quick enough for tootling around the 'burbs where it's barely ever possible to use the reserves of the XFR.
They are both great cars but not really direct competitors, one is a two door two seat sports coupe, the other is a luxury sedan with an iron hand inside a velvet glove.

 

Two dealers in west Kent have V8 coupe demos and V6S awd roadsters. Sidcup also had an ex management 2016 year V6s coupe awd which I had for twenty fours test. V6s with Dynamic or Sport on is fine but in basic quiet mode it lacks a bit of go when needed from low revs around town or on busier dual carriageways. Not keen on side skirts and add on little splitters? on each side of front - makes the car look too big. V6s seems to be accelerate smoothly enough but no real shove in the back. Loved it on more open roads and when in dynamic and also like stick changes. Noise much better in V6S soft top. Didn't do too well on one of my favourite country roads as tracks undulations a lot. The pan roof and the overtaking/inside lane warning features was great as hadn't driven with that before.

Full day test drive excellent as can take on roads you know and into busy traffic.

Would keep the V8 5.0 XF as well hopefully so not a daily driver and may try a V8AWD.
