XJR 575 - Big Red (Part 3)

So I may have mentioned looking at a XJR 575.

The particular one I'm looking at is at a non Jag franchised dealer in Nottinghamshire.

Service history has been done by Jaguar for the first two (including delivery inspection), but the other 3 services have been carried out by this indie dealer, but using genuine Jaguar parts.

Should I go for it, or pass it by?

Test drive has been arranged for Thursday, but no money for deposit has been paid as of yet.

I'm also looking for two nights accommodation in the Nottingham, Mansfield area.

Has anyone got any recommendations, preferably out in the sticks, so no scroates can spy v3 before possibly exchanging. I've had a car broken into the day before handover, didn't leave a pleasant taste in the mouth - oooh error.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking at, with regards to the XJ-R?

What does your 'gut instinct' say Riggs?
I would definitely go and see it. I think someone mentioned that if you get it inspected by a Jaguar dealer you can even get Jaguar warranty on it.

Our local Indy updates the Jaguar electronic service record so the history remains intact. It may be worth investigating the Indy to see if they operate the same way.

Thanks Chris. How does one go about getting inspected by a Jaguar dealer? Is it done pre or post purchase?

Not sure, but I do believe it’s post purchase. Can’t remember who mentioned it on here.

Done that already. They gave me the vin, and online checks show that it hasn't been updated online since 2018. That said, the dealer is adamant that they can show me the paperwork for the last 3 years.

Hi Pete, gut says it's good, but I'm also aware of new buyer with rose tinted glasses syndrome.

It’s post purchase, they charge an hour’s labour to essentially do the 1xx point check that’s done on a used approved car and as long as everything is fine, they then give you the option of getting the warranty.

Any existing issues need to be resolved before warranty can be purchased.

Condition of the car when you see it will tell you a lot. And there are other warranties available other than Jaguar's, and no need for an inspection either.

Depends on who the independent is. Some Jaguar specialists are better than the main dealers.

I know I trust Swallows more than Guy Salmon to do anything to mine.

There's a Holiday Inn at J28 of the M1 just up the road from Nottingham which is OK. Either that or go and knock on Geoff's door.

Enjoy your test drive and try and buy with your head, not your heart.

Tyres are a good indicator of how the car's been looked after. It should have a set of original spec or other premium tyres all round. If it's got a set of cheap ditch finders on then start looking a bit closer or walk away.

If it’s the red 575 in Mansfield, the brake discs look heavily scored. Worth looking in to that.

Particularly so when it has a "575" badge on it!

My local Indy took in the difficult jobs from the main dealer when they couldn't solve them. He was their top master tech & go-to guy before he left to set up on his own.
I can recommend Kilworth House, just off the M1 at junction 21 for somewhere to stay.
They do sometimes re-run an

21st November was the listing date.
Didn't see that on the autotrader page tbh.

Dealer told me they got it 2 weeks ago. Will query that with them to be sure.
