Dear friends, I’ve had the battery not charging light come up. Icarsoft points to secondary battery and alternator shot. My CTEK is unable to charge the secondary s/s battery so for sure that needs replacing. Local garages have told me that I need Jag dealer or specialist to handle the job as they need software to integrate the new battery. Is this correct? This surprises me and I cannot get booked in for several weeks! Thanks all.

Thanks for the advice all. One Jag dealer has quoted £660 for the alternator and £170 for the s/s battery - that’s just the parts, no labour added in yet! Another won’t touch the car without doing their own diag, and they want £350 for an hours diag! This is doing my nut, car is sat for a week now.

If it were me I'd probably replace both batteries, and only if the warning message still persists change the alternator ( just don't keep running it or you'll damage the new battery too ). If the alternator has failed, chances are the battery will be drained to the point of permanent damage anyway, they're not that expensive ( as long as you don't go for a Jaguar branded one), for example I used an Exide EK950
Be sure and look up the threads about letting the car shutdown properly before disconnecting the large battery though, as otherwise you're much more likely to run into the dreaded CJB/BCM issues.
thanks a lot Phil, sound advice to look at bats first, I’ve had the CTEK in the main battery and seems ok, the secondary is shot. I’m ordering the exide - however I’m not so confident in removing the old s/s battery. What is the wiring indicated on highlighter on the image below? Is there a procedure for removing this small battery and reverse for installing new? Thanks!
