Comments please:

looking under bonnet and had a look (again) at the state of the wiring and its protection.

In this pic (just behind battery), it appears they run out of wrap and couldn't be bothered to complete it - this occurs elsewhere in bay, esp under engine covers. Or is this normal (workmanship quality) for jags?

Below is a close up of 1 above looking at a couple of wires (that come from and go god knows where - any ideas what they are?) looks like the insulation has completely perished (the wiring in my 25 year old Cosworth is in better condition). Seems by luck they haven't perished where they cross as that could've caused some issues. Again, is this others' experience? Was wondering if it is a warranty issue as car is only 18 months old.

Thanks lads - rodents it is then. Found a quick picture I took of engine bay shortly after receiving it - seems they must have set up house whilst at the dealers. Will now repair.

Yes, forgot, battery in boot.

There are devices available that emit sounds outside our hearing range that can be mounted in the motor well that will deter rodents.
