Hi All

I seem to be having a spot of bother with the pressure to my window wipers? They seem to be very low on pressure plus ive just noticed that the headlight washers don't work as well
I have the bottle filled up to the top so its nothing to do with that? I can hear the pump working which brings the water to the drivers side and then it pumps again and no fluid
The car is a XFR 2009 so has anyone got any ideas what could be wrong
Thanks in advance

Have you topped up the wash bottle with Halfords own - after the car coming out from the Jag dealer?

Halfords screenwash and Jag dealer screenwash mixing can result in a very mucous like liquid that the pump will struggle to push through the pipes.

Warm - not boiling water from the kettle sorted this for me, breaking down the think mucous like liquid to something the pump could deliver - until fresh water was being pumped through the nozzles.

Thats the easy answer.

Not so easy answer is that the screenwash bottle filter could be clogged.

Hi Rigger

Thanks for the quick response
Its funny that you have mentioned Halfords as they were the last ones to do the service on my car prior to me buying it
I will try this morning
Just out of curiosity does the xfr come with headlamp washers as standard as im just assuming that I have these fitted

I'd be lying if I knew 100%.

That said the XFR was top of the range - and I would imagine it has headlight washers as standard.

If you have a small metal part at the lower centre of the each headlight - that should be the washer.

Think it operates every 4th cycle of the main windscreen wash. That might be a carry over from Ford though.

Let me have a look at the workshop manual - see what it says.

Have a look at the front bumper, under the headlights you will see a rectangle shape, these are the head lamp washers. They extend out when the washers are operated, bare in mind the headlights need to be on for them to work.

Edit: note this is applicable to the Facelift version, in the pre-facelift the washers are "triangular chrome" section between the lights

Ok - got some stuff from the manual.

It is every 4th cycle of the main windscreen wash. A carry over from Ford, as my Mondeo used to do this.

No probs Terry,

Hope the info helps.
Just been waiting for rain to go aff, Rigz......been helping neighbour Noah to build a boat........but had guessed myself that the Ingerleesh watter which had festered in my screenwash boattle may be the culprit for my wiper woes.......it just lays a bliddy film on the glass, and it has been sitting for very long periods with London HARD water in it and probably no additive, so may be some sediment. I added my own screenwash to no avail and it usually works. Will do your warm watter douche and report.....cheers.

Been chatting to a professional detailer today, if your car has previously had a coating on the windscreen it may be that which is not compatible and causing the problems. Can't remember if you said you had stripped yours right back and coated it yourself. If not, that might be the answer.

Yeah......got the wee mate to actually machine polish the front screen, Ian. Don’t faint, but one of my oldest tricks is both Jif on the glass AND wiper rubbers, or Cif as it maybe now known. Did that pre. every winter and worked great. Think Rigz has hit on a goody here......flush oot the boattle as they say in Glesga.

Kevs Idea is great.
I have been doing the wiper blades with cif and even 1000 grit wet and dry for years on my mondeo.
It really is a good idea to clean out the system before winter sets in. if you have any clogging in the system the pump will be under more pressure, you don't want the pump body to crack we all know what that can do. Likewise you don't want it to freeze.
I just cleaned out my system and spliced the pump cables, loads of crud in the tank.

Evening all

So Today I had a go at flushing the hot water though the jets but no luck .I have also changed the T piece that's in the bonnet from my other car as I know this works but this has made no difference
whilst I was sitting in the 2.7 I noticed that there is a secondary pump that must power the headlamp jets so the question is can I get this unit separately or does it come as a complete set I also noticed that I have 2 puddles of water either side of the car near the doors but im assuming that as I was going mad to empty the water from the bottle that this was just the water running through the drainage holes at high level ? or could this be another problem

Just had a thought. I wonder if it's only Scottish and Yorkshire people who re vamp old wiper blades.
Lol......one presumes the word “revamp” is the Latin derivative of “Diesel Fuel removal from rubber apparatus”......que....?
