Highland Park 12 Year Old Viking Honour is on sale in Sainsburys just now. Was £22 but now £26 but still very cheap. I like it, but not as much as Arran 10 year old (which is not chill filtered). But neither have E150a caramel colouring. Whisky is such a personal taste though, difficult to recommend.

I’m a Japanese whisky fan these days (Nikka Coffey in particular) but also really rate the English Whisky Company and Welsh Penderyn. Lagavulin is my peaty whisky of choice.
Woodford Reserve (bourbon) is my budget choice and can compete with whisky twice the price - often on special offer at £24 on Amazon but less so these days.

Never have liked scotch of any kind, gin's the thing for me, and the sun is heading over the yardarm very soon (somewhere).

I'm with Wilf. Can't stand whisky of any kind. Not keen on gin either.

I don't mind rum though.

I’m with you Jay, not keen on whisky, probably me but gin just tastes of perfume to me, I guess due to the junipers, maybe I’ve just not sampled enough varieties?

There can't be many people who live in Scotland who don't enjoy a wee dram Gav?

I used to enjoy gin until one new years eve when I enjoyed a little too much.

Cant face it anymore.

You’re most probably right mate, same thing happened to me circa New Year’s Eve 1999 I was poured too much whisky, and has turned me :(

I was never a fan of whisky in the past, but then I discovered that when it's the right whisky for my taste buds and with the appropriate amount of ice (if any - depends on the whisky) then it's the golden nectar of the Gods. Each additional glass (cut crystal is essential for maximum pretentiousness) becomes more and more seductive.

I think many types of drinks are very subjective to people's own taste buds, from beer to wine and onto spirits.

Picked up a bottle of Talisker 18 Year Old a few days ago (their last bottle!) and cracked it open this evening. It's an interesting whisky, a lot going on throughout. It took a few sips for my palate to settle into it but really enjoying it. Not sure it's going to last very long so I'll need to be on the lookout for the next wee adventure.

last night I was on redstripe and then redstripe and ginger beer ,to help rehydrate me.
Debs has, so far, 10 bottles of gin ( should see the size of our recycling skip) from me for Xmas
Some are from the likes of Aldi ( supposedly very good) and others more specialist from the likes of Amazon.

Cardhu Gold Reserve is on offer at Morrisons for £25 instead of £42 at the moment Graham, I find it best to buy two bottles at a time.. so I can confirm my thoughts on the first bottle with a second...

I like your thinking haha

Ended up a dram too many last night, although when I say dram I use a Glencairn style glass and fill it 3/4, so more like three drams per glass (#foolish) and I'm rather hazy today. I've changed my lifestyle so I now only drink once a week, so I want to make sure it's a drink worth drinking with more of a connoisseur element if you know what I mean, instead of just knocking back something more common.

I'll have a look at the Cardhu, thanks for the suggestion.
