Customer just showed up half an hour ago in an XF 5.0 V8 S/C and took me out for a spin.

Bugger.
Have you seen the petrol light?

Aye, I started laughing at his displayed 14mpg haha, but then mine is currently 24mpg so not much better all things considered.
I've driven the 2.2s and they are good. 3.0D a lot smoother, and masses of torque.

3.0P is another level - like the 2.2D to 3.0D - possiby more (but thats subjective ;))

Do I wish Jag did a 5.0V8 X260? Damn right I do!!!!

Yep! Driven them all too and the supercharged petrols are in a league of their own. The V8 and above all its sound is just epic.

Loving the sound on mine. Not shouty like the F Type. Think Jag got ghis exhaust note just right for this sporty exec car.

I have to admit that the sound with the windows up wasn't as present as I thought it would be, but then I guess that's testament to the well insulated cabin. He also only had the standard Jaguar stereo which was surprising.

Unfortunately it was local roads so couldn't really open her up properly and at lower speeds there wasn't a huge difference in feeling to my 3.0d, but it was relentless as the revs increased and wtf is that which happens at the last 1000rpm, it's like some sort of Vtec on steroids and the engine goes mental?

In my mind when comparing it's like you are pushed down the road in the V6 diesel whereas you surge down the road in the V8.

The roads are very slippy where I work but it was holding traction a lot better than mine, the advanced suspension and other kit is very noticable. Brakes are bloody good as well. Damn this is tempting!

Yep, guess it sounds pretty much like mine. I love the way this engine sounds in the F-Type but it also think it would have been a bit over the top in a large saloon.

Exactly the same feeling with the S/C V6 but with a kind of raspier throatier sound (while the V8 has that magic rumble). The power just builds up and goes mental once you've passed 5-6000 rpm. I'd say these exhausts are much noisier on the outside than one can imagine on the inside.

Does the 3.0 s/c not have similar issues with the timing chain and tensioner? What about suspension, diff etc, is it the same as the 3.0d or is it active dampener things and lsd's etc?

And Jaguar, damn you for being so stingy with Sportbrake engine choices.

The exhaust note is something I've even noticed with the diesel. Whilst it has the diesel trait when idling and the window is open you don't hear it whilst driving and only hear the exhaust, which I believe is tuned.

I see it, but those red seats wouldn't probably freak my wife out! I don't want to waste their time when I know I'm not buying, I reckon a remap would be a good compromise. There's a guy down south who seems to specialise with Jags and I should be able to get around 320bhp and 600Nm of torque. That should be more than enough and all I'll need to do is put a grand and a half aside for new inlet manifolds and an intercooler :D

It's basically the same engine with two cylinders less / different displacement and a different supercharger. Seems like it has a bit less problems with the timing chain and tensioner, maybe because it was introduced in 2013 with the second revision of the tensioners and chains, and then of course there's a bit less stress on the components in the V6. No LSD (in the X250 version at least) and passive/active dampening is spec dependent.

Interesting, thanks.

Statler was kind enough to inform me that this is indeed the case (he was also smiling as he told me - think he approved ;)). Helps that his car port is surrounded on 3 sides.

Also sounds lovely with the window down or the sunroof open.

Roll on summer!!! :p

That ain't silver! lol Aye I saw that and a brown coloured one. But just underneath there was another listing which, like a siren lying seductively on the rocks, was luring me towards it....I could hear something...a burble...:D
Honestly - its Silver - same colour as mine. Gallium or Silicon Silver.

When the sun hits it - a nice subtle gold hue starts popping out the silver.

Under cover and overcast skies - its defintely a silver colour.

Didn't see the burbler - I had the filter set for cars no more than 3 years old - so X260's only.
