Hi fellow forum members, my Diesel Jaguar XJ is seven years old now, and has covered 17,575 miles.
It gets serviced at the main dealer Stratstone Nottingham every year.
My question is when do Jaguar recommend your timing belt or chain has to be replaced at what mileage or age ?

You've a long way to go yet. It's 100k+.
Although I don't know at what age the belt replacement is recommended but I'm sure it's longer than 7 years.

John i asked Stratstone Jaguar today, how much they were charging me for a service this year, its done about 1500 miles this year from the last service I was quoted £1,60.64p on enquiring why so expensive, I was told it was a major service this year, and that it needs a timing belt change recommended at seven years. I have just about recovered from the shock.

David, find yourself a Jaguar indy. I'm sure there are FMs in the Nottingham area who will be along to recommend a good garage. Jaguar dealerships are notoriously expensive (and bad).

About normal for a main dealer. You get the idea why I despise them.....

Jagtech are a good outfit, my indy (Chris at the Jag specialist) was looking through the previous service stamps in my SV8 and said they're a good setup and it will have been looked after.

It's called 'up selling' John..

Only a matter of time before dealers ask if you want a larger free coffee for £xx, and "we have some much nicer biscuits for £xx"..

But there's obviously no incentive for the staff involved at all, none whatsoever..

Not that I'm a cynic of course...

Out of interest, David, could you please correct your wee typo at price of service please…? I am now at 21k miles on a MY2014, so looks like timing belt overdue if 7 years is the criteria. Gubberit…!

Hi Big Kev the price they quoted me was one thousand and sixty pounds and sixty four pence.
In the name of Robin Hood’s Parish Priest….! £1100.00…!! If you are able to use a socket and ratchet, David, change your own oil accordful to JohnOBC‘s top removal post and save yourself a fortune. Things like oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, even diesel filter are a bliddy breeze. Buy correct approved parts. You are now out of warranty, so find a good indie to keep your service record going by all means, but people wanting to charge £1100.00 are simply pipping the rish…! Even allowing for the more complex job of timing belt changing. Richard Turpintine lives on…..

The Jag Specialist in Doncaster were £280+VAT for timing belt change
……..leaving a balance of £700.00 for the “major service” at the dealer…..form an orderly queue. With no XE, XF, XJ to sell shortly, servicing will be their lifeblood. They will quote the usual “we have overheads”. The Scottish Parliament building cost less than some of their soon to be full of SUVs showrooms fgs.
