Thinking about getting an F-Type.

I've never had a V8 or a convertible before & now might be the time to pull that pin. I prefer the looks of the Coupe but the lure of top down motoring draws me to the convertible. I'm not really bothered which engine it has, 450/500/550bhp are all 'adequate', but it must have awd. I've seen this one advertised locally that appears to tick all the boxes & I might take a look next week.

The criteria are;

V8
Convertible
2019 or later
Max £45,000
Not black & preferably not white
Under 40,000 miles
Preferably Approved Used with a 1 year warranty
Ivory or tan interior but black isn't a deal breaker

It'll show the thickness of the paint so if an area has been repaired, typically the paint will be thicker, therefore indicating a repair.

2 days and no updates!?

How did the test drive go? When is collection day? 😁
The test drive went well & topless! The car was immaculate although the bonnet had been resprayed. However, it was a first class job that would be almost impossible to detect without a PTG & initially had me wondering if PPF had been applied. There was a slight colour mismatch with the front bumper cover but that's common with factory fresh Jags. The paint on the rest of the car was original so the bonnet respray may have been due to stone chips as there weren't any.

I set off on this project with a £30K budget + a 2017 Evoque px worth about £14K. My daughter has bagged the Evoque & I've now got her Audi S3 to px... also worth about £14K. This car is £57K so even with a slightly inflated allowance for the Audi, I'm looking at parting with at least £42K. That's a lot of brass for a weekend toy!

The other problem is that I'm really liking the Audi. The 310bhp 4 pot is an absolute peach especially with the DSG box.

I going away for a few days next week so I'm going to mull over the options & see if it's still for sale when I get back.

If I had any room in the garage, I'd keep the Audi & but this...

The V8 itch just doesn't go away though, and we're all only going forwards in age and downwards in health.

Now you've got me looking at these again!

This one is dropping into into my (revised) budget & it's still got 14 months of manufacturers warranty remaining.

With any luck it won't have any additional paint!

I'd prefer a red one but they're few & far between. This one is on the watch list but the price would have to fall another £8K -£9K. Based on similar cars that would take at least 6 months by which time we'd be at peak convertible selling season.

Nothing wrong with grey paint on an F-Type!
When I went looking for one some 8 years ago now grey was not on my radar and red such as IRR was my preferred choice. But then popped up a grey one - Lunar Grey, very similar to the one in question - going for a bargain price so I jumped all over it.
I have come to really like the colour, it pops in sunlight (same metallic hue as the one in question) and it's a doddle to keep clean or at least clean looking, just a quick wipe with some detailer and a MF cloth is all it takes most of the time.
Black would be a nightmare and I suspect IRR or any of the darker colours would be the same.

Yes IR red shows the mud splatter and straw etc stuck on the thing. In this weather I just hose off the worst now and then, with an occasional decent wash when there's a dry few days forecast. Tomorrow maybe. The PPF all over the front does make that end easier to clean, recommended.

Toying with the idea of having a look at this as it's only 10 miles away.

I could always start a crowd funding page to pay for the fuel!

A bit too much burr walnut but otherwise it looks ok.

The grey 2022 one is still for sale but the price hasn't moved for nearly a month. If it drops to around £56K I think a deal could be done.

Another possibility has just been listed but the price would have to drop by £4k...

It looks as if my plan for an F-Type has been vetoed due to the lack of boot space. Tbh she does have a valid point because even with tailored luggage it'd be a struggle to pack for a week away in the UK.

My Autotrader search is finding the following cars: BMW M4, BMW M8, Bentley Continental GT + the odd 911 & Alfa. There was a lovely AMG GT in blue a couple of weeks ago but I was too slow out of the blocks on that one. We tried the M4 despite it only having 6 cylinders, but tbh the Tesla would wipe the floor with it on every dynamic except the soundtrack! The M8 is a much better looking car than the M4 especially from the front but prices are still very high so I'd be looking at a fairly well used example. That leaves the Bentley Continental GT & despite it being an outlier at the start of this project I'm coming round to the idea. I've been to see one locally - 2015, 30K miles, Speed, 6.0 W12, FBSH - which is immaculate inside & out. The only thing that's putting me off that one is the Burr Walnut dash/steering wheel & the lack of the essential Mulliner Pack.

I'm watching 2 cars at the moment. They are both 4.0 V8s with the Mulliner pack & sports exhaust. The silver one is a late 2016 with just 18K miles & the facelifted front. The cashmere one is an early 2015 with 35K miles.

Although the facelift is pretty subtle I think it makes the front look much more 'purposeful' & I like the additional vent on the front wing.

Exactly the reason I got my XKR rather than an F-Type. At least in the XKR I can use the rear seats for luggage too.

The facelifted Bentley definitely has the edge over the earlier one. Another reason I stayed with a Jaguar for a fun GT tourer car was the availability of parts and repair/upgrades knowledge. Downside to a Bentley (or the gorgeous Mercedes GT) was a serious lack of enthusiastic owner servicing/repair knowledge.

I test drove a 2018 3.0v6 F-Type in Belfast last weekend and while it sounded glorious when prodding the loud pedal, it literally was poverty spec.
My 2016 XF has more toys and it’s pretty basic.

The Meridian sound system was drowned out by the road noise and I found it harsh and crashy on the B roads.

I was seriously considering it to replace the XF but driving it home made me realise I like my comfort. 😁

Those big Bentleys look beautiful. Set a servicing pot aside though.
