It looks as if my plan for an F-Type has been vetoed due to the lack of boot space. Tbh she does have a valid point because even with tailored luggage it'd be a struggle to pack for a week away in the UK.

My Autotrader search is finding the following cars: BMW M4, BMW M8, Bentley Continental GT + the odd 911 & Alfa. There was a lovely AMG GT in blue a couple of weeks ago but I was too slow out of the blocks on that one. We tried the M4 despite it only having 6 cylinders, but tbh the Tesla would wipe the floor with it on every dynamic except the soundtrack! The M8 is a much better looking car than the M4 especially from the front but prices are still very high so I'd be looking at a fairly well used example. That leaves the Bentley Continental GT & despite it being an outlier at the start of this project I'm coming round to the idea. I've been to see one locally - 2015, 30K miles, Speed, 6.0 W12, FBSH - which is immaculate inside & out. The only thing that's putting me off that one is the Burr Walnut dash/steering wheel & the lack of the essential Mulliner Pack.

I'm watching 2 cars at the moment. They are both 4.0 V8s with the Mulliner pack & sports exhaust. The silver one is a late 2016 with just 18K miles & the facelifted front. The cashmere one is an early 2015 with 35K miles.

Although the facelift is pretty subtle I think it makes the front look much more 'purposeful' & I like the additional vent on the front wing.

Beautiful motor car. I'd have one in a heartbeat given the wherewithal. But . . . the problem with the Bentley Continental GT is its image. It's a "Wayne Rooney" mobíle unfortunately.
Mercedes if you want a big V8 or even V12 would be my choice (if you're going to ignore the obvious . . . XJ575).

I test drove a 2018 3.0v6 F-Type in Belfast last weekend and while it sounded glorious when prodding the loud pedal, it literally was poverty spec.
My 2016 XF has more toys and it’s pretty basic.

The Meridian sound system was drowned out by the road noise and I found it harsh and crashy on the B roads.

I was seriously considering it to replace the XF but driving it home made me realise I like my comfort. 😁

Those big Bentleys look beautiful. Set a servicing pot aside though.

Find me an XJ575 convertible? :)

I think the Continental GT has moved on from it's 'Footballer' days & is probably now too low rent for most Premier League players. Nowadays most Footballers are driving an AMG GT, Mclaren, Aventador, AMG G63/FFRR with a Khan body kit.

I'd go for the BM Mate. Only a bit more than you wanted to spend.
This is the one I've been looking at...

That's me hanging my labels on others. Sorry.
You see, I'm too old to be driving a convertible without looking like an old bloke trying to look like a young bloke. You know. Sad.

Drive one - the SL AMG versions have a rep for a harsh ride, which is really not what you might expect from a "cruiser".
It can't be any worst than that M4 I tried... the ride was harder than a Pro-Kart.o_O

I'm only just coming to terms with spending a fair wedge on a used car rather than getting a new one with a 3 year warranty. I'd prefer to dip my toe in the used market rather than go full on baptism of fire with a Maserati.:D

0-60 5.3 secs. What is it doing with that engine?
Not what you want to hear, I'm sure, you being the proud owner of an F-Type. But you could stick 1 second on that 0-60 time and I still rather be sitting in that than an F-Type. It's a GT not a sports car. And a beautiful GT at that.
