I prefer the sound with the EGR open :)

Speaking of sound, IMO the best exhaust note from a diesel engine comes from the new Maserati. A press of the "S" button and the change is brutal.

Has anyone had a Spires exhaust fitted to a na 3.0 petrol or Quicksilver?
Yes they will fit, but they won’t give any additional noise, if that’s what you are after

Hi Anvil,

It's great that they'd fit, shame that noise wouldn't change though. I'm not looking for anything too loud just a little more emphasis and improved deeper tone. I do love the look of the quads though, so could still be worth it.

Anvil! :ROFLMAO:
Sledgehammer more like.

3.0 petrol not diesel.

The 3.0 petrol is the V6 supercharged isn’t it, from the F-Type. So should sound really good.

ETA: I notice he said NA 3.0. I didn’t know they did an XF with a 3.0 non-supercharged petrol.

Yes mine is pre facelift on a 60 plate so prior to the V6 Supercharged. Mine is naturally aspirated V6 petrol.
Cool. Not sure what exhausts will fit that but when you find them they should sound good.

I know the SV8 exhaust (of the similar age) is different to the diesels and XFRs. The pipe is a slightly different shape as the joint to the centre section is closer together. I bought a set of SV8 Spires exhausts years ago but they wouldn’t fit (the pipe diameter was different but it wasn’t that).

The best way of finding out would be to ring Spires.

I've heard both Spires and Quicksilver boxes on XFRs. Both sounded great, the Quicksilver had a deeper tone than the Spires. If I was looking for a new exhaust box or system I'd explore both.

I porefer the deeper sound of the quickslivers. And they WOULD make a difference on a petrol.

Still toying with the idea of replacing the exhaust on mine.

The F-Type 3.0 s/c I drove at Dunsfold was the pick of the bunch for me. V3 has that same engine, but is far more muted. You can still hear it, but its in the background as opposed to being front and centre like the F-Type is/was.

Best solution for me would be a switchable exhaust system.

An exhaust specialist would, I expect, love to build you a custom active system with remote exhaust divert valves. That'd be spectacular. Wonder what'd cost? I was wondering why the active exhaust on my XKR sounded the same with Dynamic mode on or off, so checked the dynamic system fuse, it was missing  So I put a fuse back on and can't hear the difference, I know the valves are not seized, wonder if the vacuum pump is actually working? It's not overly loud stuck in loud mode so I took the fuse back out, maybe one day I'll look at it again, maybe not......

3.0 petrol the same as Alan had, rare motor not many early petrols about. (Could be the same one )

Sorry, I missed the fact it was petrol lol, I agree with Chris it should raise the exhaust note

Me too, my XFR with Quicksilver rear boxes sounded awesome 😁

It depends I guess on what value switchable brings to you personally. I had concerns about obnoxious noises bothering the neighbours before I put spires on my XFR, but now I’ve gotten over it and just appreciate the noise - it didn’t take long :)

I understand the neighbourly point of view. My neighbour two down, has a BMW M4 Competition. Sounds lovely on a cold start.

But not when I'm at home, trying to enjoy my lie ins ;)
