Several years back, I used an old laptop with Windows XP, with SDD (possibly ver 138) with my old X Type to program in the dashboard with the message centre, amongst various other mods along the way. I also successfully used it with an S Type and an X350 XJ. I had purchased a "mangoose" cable and that worked as intended each time; I have read that this can cause issues with XFs.
From extensive reading, I gather that using SDD on an XF is slightly different. With that in mind, I have purchased the unit that keeps the battery at the required voltage. I understand that I may be asked for a PIN, or a code, in order to access certain functions.
My brief is that I've purchased power-folding mirrors, with dimming function, along with an interior mirror with the auto-high beam unit attached. I wish to program these to the car. From other threads on this site, and others, it sounds straightforward enough. I've already test-fitted the mirrors to check that they fit, but where I would like some advice is to do with the SDD.
My XF is MY13, 2.2d Sport.
  1. Is SDD v1.38 acceptable, and in the event that I need to download it, do I need to part with any money to do this?
  2. Is the Mangoose cable indeed dodgy, even though it worked without issue on the other three vehicles? If so, where would people recommend I purchase this from.
  3. How would I go about accessing the PIN/code if asked? Is it necessary to perform the modifications I'm attempting to do?
  4. Is there anything I've missed out?
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope someone will be able to help me with my enquiry.

looks like those site have had a change, although browsing to Links | TOPIx
I found I could still download the latest SDD Here

RE Vehcom.com I guess it's down or they're redesigning. Maybe someone knows another site to generate this code?
I've updated my original post

Thanks Gav. One last thing, RE my "Mangoose", I take it that it's probably better to not use it and to get a Mongoose from somewhere like British Diagnostics?

A few of us have use their Mangoose leads without any issues, but obviously I can’t guarantee that you’ll be the same.
