After lots of investigation, making sense of wiring diagrams - and WhatsApp messages to Michael @02892... I have a fully functioning reversing camera!

For some cars - most of the wiring required is already present... but not mine - I'm convinced the 2012 XF is evil.

I needed:
- a new boot lid wiring loom C2Z19978
- a new loom from the boot to the boot lid C2Z23892

- a reversing camera with housing and chrome boot strip

- a 5m FAKRA cable to from the back of the touchscreen to the new wiring loom in the boot

I had to get power/LIN bus connection for the camera directly from the rear junction box - as even with the new wiring looms it wasn't going to work.

Then of course there's the CCF edit.

Until the beginning of this year, the most complex work I'd done on a car was changing speakers.
Thanks to the incredibly helpful and knowledgeable users of this forum I've been able to do soooo much more!

Although one thing I could do with help on - is attaching images to forum posts.
I have absolutely no idea why there is one enormous image at the end of my post - and all of the others are tiny thumbnails...

OMG. Such a complex retrofit. I also own the 2012 XF and I was under the impression only camera with chrome boot strip + boot lid wiring loom C2Z19978 parts are needed. How do check if I also need cable from back of the touchscreen to new wiring loom or power/LIN bud connection from rear junction box?

The new loom from the boot to the lid/camera needs a coaxial wire with FAKRA connectors.

Hopefully you'll find a FAKRA connector somewhere behind the righthand side boot liner... if not - you'll need to run a long coaxial cable with female FAKRA connectors on each end to the back of the touchscreen!

I saw you'd used one of my car on Twitter (audio upgrade), so assumed you wouldn't mind 😀😀😀

Hi Michael, hope you manage to ship me the parts next week. How is the chrome boot strip you were talking about last week? Any damage or is good to be fitted?

The one chrome boot strip comes broken, wait another one with camera on Wednesday.

Ok. I hope I'll have more luck on Wednesday. Also one of you guys can please confirm if "new loom from the boot to the boot lid" C2Z23892 is mandatory or is any chance to already be there for me? I currently ordered only the C2Z19978 so just want to be sure if I need to order the C2Z23892 as well. Thank you!

The camera needs the wiring loom with a FAKRA connector.
If the loom coming from the boot lid into the boot doesn't have one... you need a new bootlid loom.

C2Z19978 is no.2 on picture
C2Z23892 is no.1 on picture

if you haven't the harness for camera (sometimes it present in vehicles w/o camera) you need to order additional the C2Z23982, but firstly check again availability of FAKRA body colored housing in trunk boot.
if it's present, you doesn't need to order C2Z23892 additionally.

Hi @Erickham , welcome - you might want to post a pic or two of your car on the 'Introduce Yourself' page... we're a friendly bunch if you say hi :)

On the back of the touchscreen are four FAKRA connectors - the reversing camera plugs into the purple one.

The camera needs ignition switched 12V power - you can tap a wire in the boot area for this (I don't have the wiring diagrams in front of me, but can get the information if you need it).

The LIN connection allows the lines on the screen to move when you turn the steering wheel... I added a pin to the rear junction box for this, but understand you should be able to just tap into any LIN wire in rear of the car (again, I can find specifics about this if you need it?)

Thanks for this helpful write up, James. I checked behind the righthand side boot liner and found a coaxial wire with FAKRA connector, it seems to be bunched to different wires (coloured instead of black as your image shows) though although it is close enough to connect to the bootlid loom.

Is this the right connector? Does mean I just need the bootlid loom and camera? Will I still need to tap a 12v source for the camera?

Hi Lee,

It certainly does sound as though yours is pre-wired for the camera :)

The wires are different colours up until the boot loom connector - they are all black after that.

As for the 12V connection - have a look at the boot loom connector behind the boot liner.
Do you have a blue wire going to pin 1 (there are tiny numbers printed/raised on the connector housing)? If so... you already have 12V power for the camera.

Many thanks James, I will post a few photos of my car tomorrow morning.
My car is early 2008 and it was the car number 2 in the country when I bought it. And it had to stay on the show room for a month after I paid until they could get a replacement. This car has a parking sensor back only but after I read the post I bought a used camera will entire boot lid harness and I bought a 5 meters fakra to connect the boot to the touch display. My touch display has only 3 fakra, green, beige and brown. The brown one was originally connected but I can't find the other end! However, when I disconnect it nothing happens! I have all the functions on the touch display works as usual so really I don't know what is for!
At the front of the center console and under the eco control panel there's a free short fakra very dark pink not connected.
Do you think I missing something here?

2008 XF did not have the moving guidelines, they were fixed until a technical update for 2010MY. As I understand it you won't get the moving lines to work on a 2008 anyhow even if everything is hooked up and you have a 2010-onward camera.

The brown Fakra on the back of your screen is the one for the camera input. This is different to the 2012MY onward cars.

You'll need the CCF modified to enable the camera function, but all that does is make the screen switch to the camera input when reverse is selected. Actually you can use just about any NTSC camera, the video signal input is nothing special.

So I do have the camera connection on the righthand side of the boot but it stops there. So does that mean I will still need both looms? C2Z19978 & C2Z23892.

Also, I can't find a camera with housing yet, can I use any camera as Cambo says?

To edit the CCF, I do have a mongoose cable (although I used it yet), will this do it?

If you already checked wiring in hood and if wiring with FAKRA missing, than you need order both numbers.

If you want use aftermarket NTSC camera, in this case you doesn’t need order both wiring looms.

For edit CCF, you need SDD, engineering codes for edit CCF itself.
