If you know the reason for the write-off, the history of it and the subsequent repairs, preferably with pre and post photographs, they can be a bargain. Or a death trap if you don't.... or a money pit.... But of course resale will be less when it's time to move it on.

My Lotus Elan SE Turbo was a cat D write off, that was simply a stolen recovered car very early in its life, no damage when found but the insurance had paid out before it was recovered. Subsequently sold by the insurance company with a write off title.
