WLTP is based on a 30 minute driving cycle over 15 miles or so at 14-23 degrees.
Perfectly feasible for it to do the majority of such on battery only power if it's fully charged.
It should always have included a caveat that hybrids should have been tested on engine only power too as a separate reading.
So while it's certainly possible to get those sorts of figures, it's based on you having the car charged up fully before every journey, and utilising the battery fully before switching to engine/hybrid mode.
The downside to all this being that they're quoting MPG figures based on you having much less performance than your car is actually supplied with.
Imagine using 10-20% of the available battery power just preheating the vehicle (even plugged in) before setting off and it shows how far off the mark the WLTP figure could be.

nail hit.
I was looking at the kidology late last night, Phil.
Should I go down this route ( it's certainly an option) I will have to weigh up the cost v benefits of a dedicated circuit v the cost of charging etc.
TBH the thought of 5.1secs 0 -62mph in a Velar is both highly attractive and amusing .
It does appear that there is also some wriggle room , in terms of the available HP.....
Further reading on the WLTP cycle has led me to understand there is an element of engine only driving.
It seems they have a kind of duty rating available too which will tell you how much of the time the battery can power the vehicle vs how much the ICE powers it. A full electric would be 100% and mine would be 0%.
The figures for engine only driving emissions/mpg are blended with the those for electric driving.
