I changed the oil on the F-Type a month ago, and for the first time ever I used the "pump it out from the top" method.
I pumped out 7.25 litres, and put 7.25 litres back in (7.25 litres is the correct amount for both the V6 and V8 petrol SC), all good or so I thought.
I check the level a bit later and it said "over full", WTF?
I pumped out about 250 ml and it still said "over full".
I pumped another 250 ml out and now it said "OK" and right on the max mark.
Hmmm, how can that be if I put the exact same amount back in as I took out, and before the change the oil level reading had always been "OK max"?
So I decided to check the accuracy of the cheapish Chinese extraction pump I had used. I filled it up with water to the 7.25 litre mark, and lo and behold it only took 6.75 carefully measured litres!
Obviously I had pumped out only 6.75 litres of oil and left 1/2 a litre of old oil in the sump!
I won't be using that cheap pump again!

Ah! I did put 2 litres of fresh oil into the clean, unused pump and it agreed with the 2 litre volume marking on the side, however I didn't fully check that the 6 or 7 litre markings were accurate. It's all oily now but I'll measure 6 and 7 litres of water into it and check. I bet I have the same cheap chinese pump, it was 30 quid! The vacuum part worked a treat though, even with cold oil.

I use the Pella pump which is manual pump, I keep pumping till the sump is empty then fill up old empty oil bottles which have the gauges on the side so I know exactly how much to put back in. Used it on several cars as it has a thin bit that goes down the dipstick pipe or pull the thin bit out of the rubber tube and that fits perfectly over the Jags extraction pipe.

For this engine I would only ever use exactly what Jaguar recommend in terms of spec and viscosity.

found a jaguar specialist that will do a B service for £250 - tempted to do it myself! can get the oil, air filter and oil filter for less than £90 and then £30 for an oil extractor which can obviously be used again. The car is 8 years old so I am not convinced that a "service stamp" really adds that much to it at this point?

To do as you suggest would take about an hour of your time and you can do all of that whilst standing in front of the car, though you might have have to bend over a bit depending on how tall you are!:D Phil

5'11 so minor mending! I guess I should equate the pollen filter and fuel filter into the mix too, as B service includes them
In that case I'm afraid it will be on your knees time to do the pollen filter. Phil

I use the same. They sell it for 7 liter but it’s not. It’s six.it’s excellent it will do the job in 5 minutes.
