Checked the oil level this morning and saw that it was just above the minimum. Checked the handbook and it said the difference between min and max is about 1.8 litres. I know it was max about 16,000 miles ago, so thought the usage was 16k/1.8 litres = 9k miles per litre oil which seemed high.
Luckily only put 0.5 litre in to start with, at which point the level was almost on the max. I ended up going from just above min to just below max with 0.56 litre giving a usage of 30k miles/litre.
Two questions really - is the book way off or am I reading it wrong? Is 30k/litre ok for a 78k mileage XF?
If I'd stuck 1.8 litres in I'd hve been looking for the drain plug pretty sharpish. I wonder if it's a typo and should read 0.8 litres (even that seems a little high).
