BOT 720 is specified for electronic locking diffs. Is the rear diff locking on the Rangie? I doubt it'd hurt to use this oil on a non-locking diff, I believe it has friction modifiers in it for the friction plates.

At least you spotted it now, however it broke. Be a right pain if after reassembly at start up to get a MIL and code to say faulty MAF.

.... the heater on the drivers side seems to be stuck on HOT.
If the blend flap servo motor is stuck or duff, there'll be DTCs stored. I had a similar issue in a P38, turned out the blend flap can get jammed in the housing and there's just room to insert a screw in a certain place between parts of the casing forcing them apart slightly and allowing the flap to move. To get at much else of the heater box was a dash out job.

While you have the box off, it'd be daft not to change the rear main seal, for the extra few quid, I definitely would.

Well done that man! Any further with stripping the old transfer box down to see what had failed? But didn't you suspect that whatever the failure was within the transfer box had damaged the auto box?

How noisy? Can you put up with it for a bit, should the supplier not be fruitful with a fix, so ignore it for a while?

The internals of that transfer box are consuming themselves, I'd presume a bearing? Pity you can't tear it down just out of curiosity.

Faulty interior ultrasonic sensor module? My old P38s suffered them.

Interesting, so it really is just a lot of foam pads stuck to the inside of the tyre then.

I've just put a set of Scorpion Verde onto the F-Pace and I've a load of open cell foam lying about.... I wonder?

😂
Hmm, expanding foam introduced via the tyre valve?

I’m hoping (or rather my wallet is!) that this might be the last update on this thread for a few weeks/months now! 😂
You know it won't be 😂
I'm with you on replacing the wiper arms, aesthetically displeasing bits on an otherwise superb looking car would bug me too.

David, it's a Range Rover, of course summit else will go wrong, then you won't disappoint us with a "how I fixed it" post 😁

BOT720 has friction modifiers AFAIK so the limited slip clutches can work properly, I've no idea what lubrication properties it has. Diff oil is usually a type of hypoid oil which has high stability within extreme high gear pressure use. The wrong oil in a diff could possibly allow the film between the bevel gears to break down and thus gear wear, I guess.

Disconnect the front prop shaft, put the 'box in manual, DSC off (or whatever it's called in the Rangie), 1st gear, loads of right foot, do you leave 1 or 2 rubber lines? That'll tell you if the diff friction clutches are still working!!

I'm guessing David doesn't know the history of the battery so it's quite possible it had a damaged cell or two caused by deep discharge in it's unknown past. The electrical faults are so well known to be caused by a duff battery and why (David explains above) and proved by the battery being changed and the faults no longer being present. It's the same explanation us Jag owners see multiple electrical faults which won't clear even though the engine is running and the alternator is producing a healthy voltage, this is why we so often shout "BATTERY" when someone posts "I've got multiple electrical faults...."!

Nah, I’m fairly regularly (or was pre-covid) down Manchester/Wales way with the trailer.

If the wife was with me and the diff shat itself then it would make the new one look incredibly good value for money so it’s worth it for the saving of the earache.
I had the front diff completely crap itself on my last P38, just as I reached the bottom of a motorway on slip, for absolutely no reason, no previous noise or issues then out of nowhere a loud bang followed by GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR which slowed as I braked, pulling into the hard shoulder. Sometimes mechanicals just fail.

My thought is valley gasket, supercharger outlet gasket or similar, air inlet leak.

I'll bet it won't stay clear for very long! I too end up with tools all over the floor and piles of bits. But I know they're the tools I'm using for the job so they remain on the floor as I'll need them for the reassembly.

Once all done, can you give a report on how the vehicle feels? You know when you first drive a new or at least a much newer car, it feels "taught" as the bushes have much less play than your old car, will your RR feel new(er) with less slop and wobble? Technical terms those....
