High mileage a problem?

Hi all, I'm considering a choice of two cars right now, both good specs, 3L Diesel S models, 2010.

One has 130,000 miles and is priced at £7795, the other has 170,000 miles and is priced £6495 (I'm told they were 'motorway miles').

Both seem in good overall condition, I would say very similar.

What would your advice be please? Is the higher mileage an issue, or is it worth paying a bit more for the lower mileage one?

Thanks!

A
Both of those examples look like 'motorway' cars.

I sold my XFS after 120,000 miles & it looked & drove like new. The engine was exactly the same as when I bought it 4 years earlier. The only problems I had over that mileage were split inlet manifolds & intercooler. Both of those are known XF foibles & can affect any car regardless of mileage.

Check that the belts were changed around 105,000 miles. If it's not been done, factor in £700 for a belt change. The only other thing to consider is a transmission fluid change....another £600.

If I were in the market for a 2010 car, I would be tempted to go for the non-S version. My impression is that the 240 hp version is less prone to the manifold issue (due to lower boost pressures?) and the gearbox will not have been subject to the torque values the S-engine produces.
The transmission handles 500bhp & 650nm in the XFR without complaint.

I can't recall whether the split cam cover problem is mainly the S model or whether it affects both outputs.
