I've both the Blackvue DR900S-2 in the XJ-R and a Nextbase 622GW - now with rear facing camera, fitted to the Audi A4 Avant.

Both are very good.

The magnetic mount of the Nextbase rear view camera isn't great though and twists with the slightest movement on the cable. I might have to try and re-route the rear camera cable through the hinge along with the stock Audi loom for the boot functions and lights.

Nextbast wins on the ability to remove both cameras easily. That said, the Blackvue is far more secure and I've fitted the anti-tamper shroud.

Not to be contrary to John's post above, but I feel the image quality of both are very good.

Never had any issues with either camera. Blackvue is now 5yrs old iirc and the Nextbase less than 1.

I previously had the DR650-2ch and never had any problems with that either.

I think the thing is, as long as they're clear, cope with light changes (with the necessary filters as required), and can read a number plate - something the cheap ones seem to struggle with - then that's the main job done.

I've just ordered a spare transponder key from ebay for around £40, supposedly with a 5 year warranty (I know you take that with a pinch of salt on ebay), but the garage that sorted the RP problem out said they can program it. Cost would be around £100. A lot better than the £378 the AA quoted me, given that it's only for a spare. So that leaves me with a bit more disposable to play with.

Like Chris I’ve got a DR650GW-2CH, been absolutely fine. My last one the lipo battery had to be changed but that’s a characteristic of the battery when it gets hot in summer.
I used to leave mine on 24x7 but now it’s usually 6 hours after I park, already paid for itself when some goon in work took leave of his senses and with trying to make a point, parked within a mm of my drivers side , only he misjudged and actually rubbed the rear wheel arch, then denied all knowledge, when I presented the video footage they paid up.
I had to replace the lipo on my DR400-1CH years ago, I had that in my white XF.

Could well be right. I remember getting a few hundred quid from my office for doing 10yrs with them. That was back in 2016, bought the camera a few months later, into the next year iirc.

Just done a search out of interest.
May 2018, so just shy of 5 years when bought.

For some reason I didn't get it fitted until nearly 18months later in Nov 2019:oops:

Tempted to go for the Nextbase 422GW. Full front and rear camera kit with case and SD card on their website for £200. Fully fitted for with fitting kit included in the price for £99 too, which isn't bad at all given that it includes fitting the rear camera.

422GW Full Package | Nextbase

I've signed up for the newsletter, always worth doing as companies will often offer a discount on first purchase a few days after you've signed up. Having said that, this bundle is already discounted by £50 but you never know.

I gave my 622 away , I found it too heavy and it kept falling off the windscreen. Absolutely nothing to do with the imitation 3M sticky pads I acquired in bulk from Alliexpress.

OK, I've gone for the refurb Nextbase 422DW, including the rear window camera, polarizing filter and 32GB card. £140 from the company's ebay outlet.

I also bought the hard wire kit for £20 and an extra Samsung 128GB U3 memory card for about £16, although thinking about it, I have half a dozen 64GB Sandisk cards for my camera sat here doing nothing.

Good way to buy, I've bought lots of stuff from official outlets and 9 times out of 10 they're brand new returns. Can't argue with that price and it has everything I need.

I settled on Nextbase because I like the way you can easily detach it yet it's secure when in situ. Thanks for all the advice as ever.

On a couple of longer trips recently, the DAB has been dropping out intermittently which I put down to poor signal strength or signal shadow wherever I was at the time. But over the weeks I've realised that this isn't the cause so today, during a trip and episode of "poor" signal I though, "I wonder . . . " and reached over and disconnected the rear camera cable from the dashcam. Hey presto!, radio comes back on.
Never had an issue with the Blackvue. (More on this later).
So I've just fitted a ferrite bead around the wire which I'm hoping will cure the problem.
My DR650 2ch Blackvue is now in the other half's Megane so I'm going to check but I seem to remember that the rear camera had a ferrite bead on the wire which perhaps explains why it didn't affect the DAB in the same way.

Just for info John in case you, or anyone else, didn't know.. ferrite beads often work better if you can get three turns of 'wire' through it in these situations.

No disrespect intended, just putting it out there for info purposes. (y)

And/or multiple beads along the cable length with several turns through them. Certainly won't hurt.
