I bought a little polarising lens for my blackvue. Problem solved.

Just looking at the Blackview site. I must admit I'm leaning towards that one. It's a lot neater and should be less easy to spot from outside. The 4G option is only £4 a month for the sim which is hardly going to break the bank.

That's what we have the I-PACE, the version with LTE built in. The one in my XFR-S is an old one with only WiFi so I use a mobile hotspot for it to connect to.

As related in another thread, I had to withdraw the Nextbase from sale when my Blackvue went tits-up, again! So it got reinstalled in the XJ and has remained there ever since. The Blackvue went away for repair, again, and when it came back I put it in Mrs. OBC's Megane as her Blackvue had also failed. (It was, in fact, my old camera originally installed in my XF so is at least 8 years old).
But after going through the pros and cons here I've decided to have the Blackvue back in my car as I do miss the Cloud function. The Nextbase will go into the Megane. My other half is away in Spain for a week so I'll do it tomorrow. Be interesting to see if she notices.

Interesting. I haven't seen the other thread. I haven't really made my mind up what to do yet, I'll probably read more reviews but I've got other things I want to do on the car and will need to think about where I draw the line, as it's a 14 year old car now, albeit with only 60k on the clock.

You know how it is, you can spend money on them forever and if you're not careful you could end up spending more than you would on a newer one with all the bits you wanted.

That is one thing with the dashcam, I can at least transfer it later.

See, this is the problem. I started off with a £100 budget, then decided everything in that price range seemed to be a bit naff. So I doubled the budget. But I know what I'm like. I'll probably end up spending £500 or so on the top model. Then buying a long life battery, and hardwire cables, LTE kits and so on.

One of the good things I find with the Nextbase is that I can remove it easily as it is only held in place by a magnet, no plug to disconnect. Phil

I was wondering the same thing. Might have just been unlucky. Not seen many poor reviews, but most people post them just after they've bought the item.

The other thing I'm asking myself is "Are they really necessary or is it just a fad"? What are the odds of having a no-blame accident? And insurance generally covers it anyway.

Apart from that, there's the chance that if you've made a mistake you could actually be incriminating yourself.

Still on my wanted list, but I've moved it down a little for now.

So the Blackvue is reliable then.... 😕
Good question if my recent experience is considered. But there are plenty of FMs here, me included, have used them for years and the concensus seems to be that they are reliable and robust.

The DR650GW-2CH in my R-S is very old now. Had it in my Red XF so it’s at least 6 years old. Hasn’t skipped a beat.

The 750LTE-2CH in the I-PACE is a couple of years old now and also hasn’t skipped a beat.

May have just been unlucky, or certain models have small faults with them that crop up from time to time.

Either that or John has been spending too much time in car parks recording people for long periods

Like Chris I’ve got a DR650GW-2CH, been absolutely fine. My last one the lipo battery had to be changed but that’s a characteristic of the battery when it gets hot in summer.
I used to leave mine on 24x7 but now it’s usually 6 hours after I park, already paid for itself when some goon in work took leave of his senses and with trying to make a point, parked within a mm of my drivers side , only he misjudged and actually rubbed the rear wheel arch, then denied all knowledge, when I presented the video footage they paid up.

Reliability aside, I would say that the quality of the video from the Nextbase is better than (my) Blackvue - DR900S 2Ch - even though it's supposed to be 4K. (I do have it set to the max quality)
