Hello all,

Given Jaguar's UK notice that InControl Apps will cease by the end of the year, I'm looking around for a CarPlay Retrofit plugin kit. There are few out there ranging between £300 and £500 but service companies are keeping the make and model hidden which bothers me the most (predominately all from Asia). I want make sure the make/model can apply firmware updates aligned when Apple CarPlay updates itself as and when they happen. Hard to say which products are fixed software wise and/or end-of-life. The other thing is to ensure the kit integrates with the existing Infotainment system and car warranty accepts modification, so the least risk taken.

So far I've found:

The following stands out given their trust pilot feedback:

Some detective work tells me the shops are using key suppliers to get their kit but also the personnel to install it on their behalf and then apply a surcharge on top...typical but expected I suppose. I want to avoid those...

Anyone has had any successful implementation of this for more than 12 months? and may I ask what make and model is it plus the service name used to install it... thank you in advance.

I suspect they are all exactly the same unit from China.
Pricing depends on what direction the wind is blowing.

Thanks for your responses everyone.

I've asked a few suppliers if they have the latest CarPlay software which has 'SharePlay' feature. This allows passengers to use 'their' music from the their phone whilst still using your phone for Navigation. A key feature for my needs... a video below here (Time Index 1.47)

My drive at the time was because Jaguar announced de-support of its native apps on 8 inch hardware units last year. Officially it ended in December 2023. Hence the plausible reason to look for an MMI retrofit unit which integrates with the existing unit. I didn't want to a full replacement android alternative after hearing so much about electrical issues.....

As with many of the responses here, all the retro fit units are from East Asia in one shape or another. The most supported one looks like the icebox auto version. I did call them up and asked a whole bunch of questions and they did respond well. They also provide instructions on how to install it manually...but they can install it for you (details here) at their offices in Liverpool.

I didn't go for it in the end because the music native app (cable link or Bluetooth to iPhone/playlists) still works fine and so do the voice calls. I don't use the other apps, so its not a problem for me. The other reason is that car play GPS varies depending on your network provider and on a merc a180, it guided me the wrong way when I needed it most. So, its not all cracked up as it should be...I still use the native map guidance system and that works fine for me.

I hope this helps....
