Funnily enough Fred, you have just reminded me that my first CTEK failed me one weekend for no good or known reason, the XF main battery was generally 'topped up' every 3-4 weeks on a Saturday or Sunday and one weekend I realised that it had only charged the battery for about an hour even though it had been connected for 10 hours or so when I checked the voltage history afterwards with the Bluetooth voltage checker bolted to the battery.. binned that CTEK as untrustworthy, and bought another..

Thinking further on this after the prompt from Fred, Chris.. I just plugged mine in anything from that night to 10 days later with no problems.. apart from that one time I had a problem... :)
I had been thinking of getting one for some time Pete, as the adverts and info sounded good. I thought, this firm have done their homework on the thing. Same old story, an otherwise good product spoiled by penny pinching on components, it would seem to be the norm nowadays.
A good electronic product is one I know nothing about, due to not having to repair them. I often watch Big Clive on you tube who takes things apart for fun, to see how crap they are. It is not difficult to design things to last and not necessarily more expensive.
May be other motives involved, I remember talking to a couple of friends who had businesses

I was telling them that the systems I designed hardly ever failed and was quite proud of the fact. Both of them said, but who gains, not you. I said but at leased I sleep nights.

o_O Great weather for 550bhp & RWD.
Yeah and summer tyres. Typical really, but it wasn't too bad. A bit slushy in places.

Just had E&E on the phone. MOT passed no problems :)

Bad news, seems the window in the rear drivers side door also isn't working, never thought to check that, so now they suspect it's either a broken wire in one of the looms or a faulty module. They are going to strip the door down first and start checking.

Plus, it's back to front. Jaguar "Leaper" leaps to the left.
Not on the side of an X250 Sportbrake nearside rear light cluster they don't... ;)

Always bugged the sh1t out of me, and the fact that the Leapers on both rear lights faced the rear of the car!!..

Just picked up Big Blue from E&E, clean bill of health. Now, the weird thing is that when they removed the door card and disconnected the door module to test the wiring harness, all appeared working, and when they reconnected everything it all worked. Today, to be sure, they disconnected and reconnected it again and it's still working. So it's fixed?! They didn't charge me any diagnosis time for it either which was rather nice.

What's even stranger is that in the week last week, I disconnected the battery for 10 mins just to see if it need a classic IT fix of turning it off and on again, but the fault remained.

Could be. Could just be a software gremlin as it coincided with the battery going flat. Just have to keep my eye on it.

So same as my screen washer pump in my XKR, mysterious self fix after electrics fiddled with. I expect we'll both be reporting the fault returns, at some stage.....
