ACC retrofit.

I would like to retrofit AAC to my MY2017 X260.

From what I found I will need:

  • Radar unit
  • Radar mounting bracket
  • Grill for cars with ACC
  • Steering wheel right button panel with distance buttons.
  • CCF modification
Someone mentioned a different ABS unit, but my car is equipped with AEB, so it can brake automatically already (?)...

Am I missing something?

So it may not be as easy as it looked initially...

On the other hand I wonder what is the real difference between both versions. At the end of the day both can apply brakes on another unit request...

I think AEB doesn't apply the brakes but preloads a pressure vessel to help apply the brakes more quickly when it senses you take your foot off the accelerator quicker than normal.

The manual says:
If the vehicle AEB detects an imminent risk of collision with a vehicle travelling in front, it automatically applies the brakes .

I think it is the EMERGENCY BRAKE ASSIST (EBA) wchich preload a pressure vessel.

It is quite hard to find 2016-> XF with Active Cruise Control... Or it is my impression only ?

Common ABS module has ...A* at the end of WERS no. ACC ABS module has ...B*. Also, abs from 18MY and newer are not compatible with old ones.

Good to see that it can be done!

Really difficult to get that ABS modulator 2nd hand, it’s £1400 new!

I’d love to do this retrofit, but I added up the cost of the parts and it’s looking at £2500 if the ABS modulator is bought new.

Fitted all the parts, but run into trouble with the ABS unit.

I installed the ABS modulator "B" from Jaguar XE: GX73-14F447-B* instead of HX73-14F447-B*.
Whet I try to program the new module, the SDD comes with the following screen:

Font Parallel Tints and shades Automotive tire Pattern

Obviously, it knows, (from as-built?) that a different ABS type should be fitted, and tries to download the firmware for HX73-14F447-A*.
I cancelled this step, and it goes to the VIN learning stage, which is completed successfully, but the SSD still reports “DTC for ABS U3000, Fault type 55 (System programming failure - is not configured).

Question to more advanced SSD users: How can I modify the "as-build" file, or something different, to make it work?

I believe Onotole, quite rightly, charges for this service. Open to be corrected though.

Fitting the ACC radar and the steering wheel switch pack was quick and easy.

Replacing the ABS pump was a pain in the...

My advice:
-prepare two tools for the hydraulic pipes. I just cut normal spanners in half. Due to space constraints, you won't be able to use anything longer than 5-6cm (unless you've got some specialised garage tools).

-Remove as much as you can of the plastic holders/brackets used to keep all the pipes together. Refit them once everything is completed. This will allow to move the pipes separately.

-disconnect the electrical harness and keep it out of the way (use some tape to protect it from the splashed brake fluid).

-Unscrew and disconnect two bigger pipes coming to the ABS unit first, bend them up (flexible sections) and fix them to something to keep them out of the way while accessing the other four smaller pipes.

-Loose two ABS fixing screws.

-You should be able to pull the pump up now, but it is still held by the rubber anti-vibration bracket. I had to use a short crow bar to remove it.

I had to rotate it upside down to be able to get it out of its little space...

Once the new pump is fitted, bleed it using SDD, EXACTLY as it tells you. Do not take short cuts.

Obviously, the Christmas tree lights will be lit on your dasboard until the new unit is properly configured with SDD...

@PGG
Nice work and thanks for the part numbers. I would like to do the same for my Jaguar XE 2016.

But one question to all, is the wiring harness including plug for the radar already installed in the car?
If no, where did you get the pin assignment and the plug?

Thanks in advance
The wiring harness for the ACC radar was in my car already (plugged into the blank holder). In my case, no wires were added or altered.

Open the bonet and have a look just behind the grill.
