Get the winglets wrapped. Or chromed...

The rear is not too bad and the exhausts don't look "wrong" positioned where they are IMHO.
The front looks just like a desperate attempt to make it look different from the current model, and it hasn't worked.
Get rid of the winglets and re-profile the headlamps. At the moment it looks like one of those cheapo body kit things from ebay.

I reckon the design is Ok but it's no cigar this time. The facelift parked next to it in the first picture looks prettier, more cohesive & svelte.

The rear is a lot more Audi than Jaguar, the side looks like a BMW & the front resembles an XJ with an XFRS lower spoiler. That's too many conflicting design cues for my eyes!:(

The reg plate on that black XF looks familiar. I wonder if it's a series that belongs to jaguar . . . .

If I had to muse, I might muse that the I4 Ingenium engines are probably a lot taller than the V6s or the current "Ford" I4s.

So to maintain pedestrian protection ratings, the front end of the car had to become steeper/taller, which is what you see in the difference between the new nose and the current or facelift car's nose.

Hence the changed bonnet shutline and the somewhat awkward styling over the inner tops of the headlights.

Just musing.............

Could be....but this is the company that managed to get a 5.0 litre V8 + supercharger & 4wd transfer box in to the F-Type without spoiling it's looks. Must be losing their touch?

Very well put. Fingers crossed that a facelift in a few years will put things right and bring back some Jag grace to the design.

Yes, spot on.

All this confirms my earlier opinion. It bodes well for the current facelift model: should retain higher value, and will be seen as the most aesthetically pleasing to the eye. No amount of interior gadgetry is going to improve the overall look, which is most definitely unresolved compared with the current model.

Makes me much happier to keep my current car!

I disagree, I like the improvements, yes the prototype looks poor, around the bonnet shut line and headlight 'winglets' but I would expect this to be improved on the production models.

Always the same with facelifts or a new model accross all brand forums, most current model owners want to play down the new design, but as the new model is released and begins to establish itself, many will start to think about a change :)

I'm with Ivanov as these echo my sentiments. I couldn't be happier with the shape and styling of my XF and it has all the tech and gadgetry I need. I much prefer the design of the Facelift and wouldn't swap it for the new one as the front nose and bonnet is a total show stopper for me, plus I prefer the side profile and rear of the Facelift.

Aside from the silly winglets design on top of the headlightss, which will probably be improved before release, the rest of the design looks good to me. First and foremost is that Jaguar changed the hockey stick LEDs to something a bit more simple and unfussy, but easier on the eye.

I like the rear light cluster, and think it will look very distinctive, at night time, with the double F-type dished line profile.

And that's what makes the world an interesting place, if we all liked the same thing..........

For me, they have done enough to freshen up the shape to make it a different car, all I need now is an AWD V8 and I will put my name down :)

I also think the shut lines will be improved in the final product. Overall I really like it although it needs quad pipes (Spires you listening??!). Also needs AWD on the V6D which is sadly absent so I may end up in a A6.

If the X260 was the current car & Jaguar announced the X250 (facelift) as a 4 door coupé version, it'd probably be met with lots of acclaim.

In terms of overall design, latest isn't necessarily the best. The E46 M3 is probably the best looking 3 series & that was 2 generations ago!

I'm picky, I must admit. My last car still looks fantastic, though dated (designed and built in 2000). However, I waited for the facelift Jaguar before buying: there is something about the refinement of the lines and the overall resolution of the design which actually works, and is aesthetically pleasing to my eye.

The new Jaguar XF, whilst from the same mould, is garnished with extras which - in my opinion - don't work so well (the exterior and interior). For example (and I could go on at length here!), the taillights, whilst different and no doubt aping the F-Type's success, are fine when lit, but incredibly boring and clunky when not. The 'J' hook of the taillights that others dislike, I really like, and is distinctive on the road.

It's the overall package that won me over to the XF, and as pretty as any sedan can be, other than a 4-door Aston Martin. The only thing I would consider that would be an improvement on the current XF would be something to remove the blandness of the side profile (other than the rear 'haunch', which is only visible from the rear or three-quarter view).

I'd also agree with Nick that the E46 is much nicer than anything since - lines of the car are truly resolved and a beauty to look at.

No, I'm not just saying this to preserve the value of my current car, or because it's grown on me so much that I don't want to change: it's because I take a deep interest in car design (not just the engineering), and take a lot of pleasure in seeing cars that 'look right' (based on my own prejudices, of course!).
