2013 Sportbrake CJB - time to panic?

Hi guys. Although the car is displaying no odd behaviour, I took a precautionary look at the blue connector block on the CJB just now, and observed the following...

There is a verdigris-looking deposit ?? on and around the lower pins, but the pins themselves are not tarnished.

Available options:
1. It's time to panic;
2. I've caught it in time and it can be saved; Or
3. That looks normal. Stop panicking.

What do you think?

dont panic, but you do need to do something NOW!

first,
isolate the pump wiring in whatever method you prefer to stop the capillary action from continuing,

secondly,
fit the new replacement pump as yours is leaking at the connector seal

third,
get some ' electrical contact cleaner ' and liberally spray the plug and the socket of the CJB , this should remove all the green deposits and clean the terminals , you can then spray with electrical contact grease to coat the pins to prevent further corrosion issues

you should have no further troubles if you do this right away

good luck

A mix of 1 and 2 I'd say corned, please read the thread linked below as it has some very important information from Michael in post two.. and I do mean important...

Thanks guys. Looks like my day tomorrow is now going to be mostly spent under the car!

I have been reading the pertinent threads on here, so I have a reasonable idea what's involved. In fact, it was reading them this afternoon which prompted me to go out and check in the first place.

One thing I need to understand: is the water a) coming down the cables on that particular plug, or b) from behind the CJB unit itself and forward into the blue socket?

If b then I don't see how a clean up and grease would work? Would the CJB itself not need removal and cleaning up?

I don't know anyone with SDD unfortunately - unless the local indie is able to plug in for a couple of minutes and find out for me...
for comparison, i just checked mine again after nearly 1 year of ownership , thankfully clean

The considered opinion is that the ingress comes via capillary action via the wires/cables from the front/rear washer pump..

PLEASE take note of what Michael warned against!!...

Don't panic too much.. just make it a priority using the information in this thread and the others you have read... (y)

Don't think you need SDD, I think Pete only used it because his had another problem.

When you disconnect battery your car can lost keys (not must, but can). So it’s better to contact with sdd owner before and ask someone to help via teamviewer if it will happened)

Preliminary report now in.

The photos speak for themselves. The pump plug/socket is awash. Green cable copper is tarnished. Blue/white looks ok though.

I've cleaned the CJB plug/socket as best I can, and have left them open now for the rest of the day to air out a little. I will grease the whole plug arrangement - pins, plug, everything - before I put it back again.

I have also spliced the pump cables as high up as I could, and installed bullet connectors (which I will 'pot' with grease) to provide a firebreak to reduce the risk of further wicking from now on.

New pump now on order. I will keep you updated on progress.

Thanks to everyone for your help, guidance, and encouragement.

Looks like you caught it just in time - well spotted.

I replaced my pump last year and put a break in the wiring to (hopefully) prevent any future issues. Have a look at post #60 in this thread for more information:
Although my car is the saloon rather than Sportbrake, it should still help.

Thank you, kind Sir!

I note your additional recommendation about the large + terminal also under the liner - I will have a look at that in a moment.

I have also now potted my bullet terminals in superglue (BEFORE connecting!!), so there's little opportunity now for moisture to wick through that... :)
Nicely done corned, I would still strongly recommend that you let us know whereabouts you are so some kindly member could possibly help with reference to checking the CJB via SDD to make sure it's okay, you don't want to lose functionality of the car if you have to disconnect the battery for whatever reason... Well spotted, just in time! I broke my wires with some solid core and also used push wire connectors among others things to create as much blocking as possible.

Just had a raft of error messages come up - gearbox fault, DSC fault, ABS fault, key fault, suspension fault, every kind of fault! Hoped it was something related to unplugging things at the CJB. Recycled the shutdown/lock/unlock/ignition/start again, and they have all disappeared. Panicked me a bit for a moment, though!

I'm in Notts, near J26 M1 if anyone happens to be nearby...? I'm happy to travel, esp for some peace of mind.

I am in Gedling, close to Mapperly Plains if that helps.
Re the fault codes that you mentioned, I get them every time I edit CCF. The SDD procedure says to leave the car locked for at least 5mins and start the car. I “guess” it is because the JB(s) are trying to copy the firmware from back up memory to the main one.

Flippin' heck, you couldn't find someone with SDD and experience much closer than that surely!!!.. o_O

Nicely spotted and offered Hamed.. (y)

So a bit paranoid I checked my CJB today. Fortunately bone dry and not a hint of corrosion.

Would probably still be worth doing the 'shunt' mod just to be sure though Chris.. albeit that your wiring loom 'may' be different...

Yes I probably will, or at least speak to Sturgess about it as there’s a TSB.
