New warning light today, low washer fluid, but this one was easily solved, topped it up...

Then onto changing the pedestrian sensors that arrived today...

Headlight out:

Then I unplugged this sensor:

Undone the single bolt:

Crack in the surface if the sensor:

Compared the 2 and realised it was incorrect:

I then realised this isn't the sensor I should have removed...

It's down below:

Old vs new:

I then changed the other side

Cleared the code which removed it:

But after a couple of ignition cycles the fault returned!

Now I am trying to work out what that sensor is with the crack in it, so I can replace that as it will obviously need it, irrespective of whether it is the cause or not.

Disappointing that the sensors being swapped hasn't resolved it, debating letting the dealer do the diagnostic on it to be honest

Have you double checked the connectors. That's where my problem lay.

Yeah bone dry and shiny metal on the pins so no signs of ingress whatsoever, now wondering if the Autel unit at the garage would read the 2 digit suffix on the fault code where the carsoft doesn't...

Funnily enough, Iv'e just bought the Autel AP200 been impressed with everything it covers DPF, BMS, SAS, EPB, INJ Coding etc.. It does give the fault codes with the 2 digit suffix. You get one manufactorer which you choice, plus you can add others for £20 odd quid.

Just had a quick look at the ap200, if that reads the suffix codes then their reader certainly will!

I'm surprised that sensor is a Ford part. I can't think of any Ford's that had that system.

Conceded defeat after many hours trying to get my SDD to work, car is booked in with the authorised repair centre for diagnostics for Friday morning...

Getting a VW polo courtesy car :driver:

Hopefully it puts me on the right path to sort the car at last

No shame in knowing your limitations, better now then after you have sunk more money and time into solving the fault yourself.

And possibly bricking it if a connection goes tits up.

It's not shame, just annoyance, I've only ever had one acceptable experience at a dealer and the rest have been atrocious!

This is the dealer I've had an acceptable experience at, but I'll still be adding stipulations when the car goes in and I'll be video recording parts of the car when it is dropped off...

Cynicism derived from prior experiences, but hey ho!

Why not a Jaguar specialist, dealer would be the last place I would go with an old Jag with issues.

I've found a lot of independent places lacking too in the past to be honest, it's a Taylor's authorised repair centre that have VW and Renault in the same area.

They were the ones who highlighted my forward alert fault may not be the sensor but its alignment too.

I spoke to the technician about reprogramming the ICS and he seemed very comfortable and competent in the discussion. It is also only a diagnostics visit currently, I'm comfortable replacing most parts on the car so if it is sensor(s), plugs etc at fault then I have the diagnosis and the parts department adjacent to each other and can sort that.

If it isn't fruitful then I may explore a specialist

I'm with you on the distrust of dealers, main, independent, back-street, under-the-arches or whatever. Even those places I previously trusted let me down either with over-charging, price mis-quoting and denying it after the work's completed, poor workmanship or mis-treatment of my vehicles. Cars are my hobby. I buy used, sometimes with known issues then fix and modify them. I could buy new but I get enjoyment from the hobby and financially, I'm better off. Such a good feeling to fix a complex fault myself for the cost of just parts and my own time.

Got the call from the dealer earlier, apparently there's no actual fault, and they've done checked things like resistance, the codes have been cleared and the issue is resolved...

Perhaps the iCarsoft is not capable enough, which seems to be the case the more and more I use it, there are more capable generic cheaper options available it would seem!

Anyway, they were told not to wash the car and it had multiple signs in stating as such, I have the polo until the morning when I collect the car. Hopefully it all goes smoothly and I have my first positive dealer experience in nearly a decade of car ownership...

Hope it goes well tomorrow Jordan (the not washing) and hopefully they've fixed the car as well... :D

Collected the car and had a fault free drive home, the write up differed slightly from the conversation where they said voltage was all good... however that's not a problem as I now have an idea of where a potential fault may stem from.

Also, they have confirmed that they reset the status of the ICS in there which is what I suspected to be the issue after the impact sensors didn't resolve the problem.

The charging structure of charging for diagnostics on top of labour is another reason to not like dealerships but hey-ho the car seems to be sorted and it was my first positive experience so I'll take it!

The car wasn't cleaned and the health check stated that also, so I'm happy, although the health check says the air con works fine ever though there's a code present and it blows warm air when stationary, but I'm aware and have the plan to sort so not concerned.

The brake warning hasn't come on for a while either, just need to get the car through a proper jet wash including underside now that the salt season has been washed away.

"Reset Impact Crash Status" would suggest as you say, the module had logged too many "near misses". A stupid situation, Jaguar shouldn't have programmed the system in this way, but there you go. It'd also aggravate me to have to pay labour for work done and on top of that pay for them to use the tools then need to do the work. That's like a plumber charging for "Pipe cutter, bender, pliers, wrench and blowlamp" as an additional charge. Pretty disgraceful practice.
