    DSC Not Available

Hi, yesterday afternoon I got the DSC Not Available followed by Restricted Performance, after switching off the engine and restarting it went away, however this morning the same thing happened, which again an engine off and back on again cured it, it appears to run ok, anyone any idea where to look, or does anyone near me have a reader to isolate the fault? I've had dsc not available (then abs, Cruise etc) when the foot switch got confused. Cleared after a reboot but could be foot switch. Also dodgy abs sensor can cause this.

    RP though, dunno...

It could be the cable to one of the abs sensors - the break can be within the insulation which makes it hard to spot.

Or just put it down to another lovable XF glitch. I drove to the office one morning this week with no instrument lights (the headlights were on). Hasn't happened before or since. 😒

Mine was a broken ABS cable. Almost always one of the rears which go.

Dealer should be able to pinpoint which side by plugging it in.

It will disable ABS, traction control, cruise control and winter/dynamic modes.

Brake pedal switch is also a known culprit

Sounds like it is going to be a trip to the main agent for a diagnostics, I don't think there is an independent near me that would have the necessary equipment, oh well there's the wife's Christmas present spent! Phil

The classics tend to be more ABS cables breaking up, the face lifts can be both but still more often the cables corroding.

I had this warning come on the other day. No ABS, no EBD, no DSC. looked at the wheel speed sensors. Front left is open circuit. Front right 700 ohms resistance. New front sensor ordered £35.

Hi STE, I would check mine but no sure what you need to check it with or how to do it. Phil

An odb2 port reader (about 20quid) and the free phone app Torque would likely diagnose. Torque even looks up the error code against an online database to help. I've never had to use on the Jag but have successfully on a Qashqai and Mandatory before.

I have an ELM 327 BT and torque pro. No fault code and does not display wheel speed sensor output. Would be a 'C' code and torque only reads 'P' codes

Just an update on this, I took the car into a local Independent Jaguar specialist who has the genuine Jaguar diagnostic equipment, he said that there were a lot of fault codes registered, some going back over 5,000 miles. He said the scan indicated a faulty EGR valve but he isn't convinced that this is the problem, so he has cleared all the faults and told me go back when it goes into restricted mode and he will scan it again, he said he doesn't want to just put a new EGR valve in without clearer information, it went into retricted performance again this morning so I am taking it on Monday. Phil
p.s. over the holiday I removed and cleaned all the ABS sensors just in case.

Hi STE, was it the ELM 327 BT that told you that there was an open circuit and a resistance on the speed sensors? Phil

No. It was a multimeter. I changed the sensor but it didn't cure the fault. Further investigation with a multimeter also identified a broken power wire into the ABS module. I fitted a link wire and all is good now

DSC/ABS problems and Restricted Performance+EGR issue? I'm loosing something but they are so so different. As far as I know, braking issues won't make a RP appear, it will just say to drive cautious or not to drive at all. RP is from the engine and this might be true when EGR is faulty and I think that EGR is not one of the reliable parts of the XF V6 (either 3.0 or especially 2.7).
On the other hand, how's your battery? It's also known about multiple issues (RP, braking systems errors, etc.) because of battery that can't hold a fine charge.

But as Phil says some of the codes go back 5000 miles so a complete mix of codes in there.
