Where can I get an itemised list of what is supposed to be done on an A service and B service for a 2011 3.0TTD Portfolio S?

This changes when it's pasted into here and the single * position changes. All the items with a single star are the B service ones except 11 which is A.

Also, wise owners should do item 19 much earlier at half that schedule.

Hmm... why is there such a difference in item 19 in the two posts above? 10 years / 150k miles or 5 years / 120k km?

#6 ·
Yes gourmetsaint, it is correct except for item 11 which should be A service only. Jaguar say to do the transmission fluid every ten years but wise owners should do it much earlier. The 5 years depends on the mileage really.

Did anyone let a dealer do the gearbox oil change (no 19), and what did you pay for it in that case?

#17 ·
Welcome Mikeyp.

Yes, around here we are also signed on to the "replace your transmission fluid at 60k mile intervals" mantra. I simply do not understand why Jaguar or LR don't put it into the service schedules. "Sealed for life" = a short life.

Mind you - Jaguar have form - the transfer boxes on AWD X types were the same.

Thee weeks ago I paid $340 (about 160 GB pounds) to have all four rotors renewed, all four sets of pads renewed, the brake fluid drained and renewed, and an engine oil & filter change.
Admittedly I supplied all the parts fluid and oil, this was labour only, but again the moral of the story is that a good independent can do the job just as well as a dealer for a fraction of the labour cost. I shudder to think what my local stealership would have charged for this labour, well over $1,000 AU in my guestimation.

7. 150k Renew front accessory drive belt
8. 150k Renew fuel pump drive belt & tensioner (10 years or 150,000miles)

AKA 240.000KM in the picture in this thread, my car is at 255.000KM I am not sure if this has been done...
Car was going to the dealer up to 230.000KM, so is there a way to check it or better be safe than sorry and just do it?

This seems rather complex to do so take it to my dreaded NL dealer?
What would the price be kinda for this so I don't get ripped off :)

#23 ·
Hi, some dealers have a fixed price for these sort of jobs on cars over 3 years old, might be worth asking. Phil

Guys the renew automatic transmission fluid is that the ZF gearbox thing or something else? like powerwheel steering fluid?

#26 ·
yes it is the gearbox, I would make sure that ZF fluid is used and not some other similar fluid;) i believe that ZF boxes were at one time considered sealed for life but now a fluid change about every 80K is the suggested

Yeh I got that one I already did the transmission flush @ ZF here in The Netherlands.

Questions still remain about this:
Ok since I am at 260.000 KM I need to this:
Brake fluid change (every 3 years) --Done 2 years ago? --> Update did this anyways was a simple thing to do and not expensive
120.000 km Automatic transmission fluid (done it at 240.000) --OK (so we were debating if this was the powersteering or transmission fluid)?

@240.000 KM so I need to do this:
Renew anti-freeze ?
Renew front accessory drive belt?
Renew fuel pump drive belt & tensioner?

I just got a quote from an indie specialist (owner rebuilt an XFR that was wrecked and with a Jaguar trained techie who fled the stealership) to do the transmission change.
$750 (or around 375 pounds) Dealership quoted $1100.

I have 140,000 kms on it now so I'll have to think about the belt change I guess...

I checked the belts last oil change and there was no sign of wear and they don't feel hardened.

#36 ·
I simply do not believe that about the ZF8.

It too will benefit from fluid changes, like any auto gearbox in the world. I bet the service schedule in the USA includes gearbox oil changes..................

#37 ·
Agreed I think if you contact ZF they will tell you it needs to be changed "at one point in time".
This can me based on years or KM/miles.

Well fired an email off so we will see

I called to yesterday to book my car in for a service (*****) Jaguar XF-R 5.0l the car has currently covered 64500miles.

I was quoted £385.52 for 75k 5 year service (A service)

Looking on the Jaguar UK website I found a list of fixed prices https://www.jaguar.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance/fixed-price-servicing.html

This scheme for cars over 3 years old like mine lists the interim service at £199 or a major service at £275 there is nothing listed for £385.52

My car does not require a pollen filter, air filters or air con deodorise as I have undertaken this work myself since purchasing the car from you in October.

It may require a brake fluid change but that should be in the records you have as you have maintained this car for the previous owner from new

Please confirm your rates asap

Oh well

Thank you for your email,

We are not currently a participating dealer in the fixed price servicing for vehicles over 3 years old I'm afraid. If this changes in the future, we will be sure to communicate this to you and the rest of our customers.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Other nearby dealer wants £453.77!

For the following
Plug-drain
Filter-oil
Fluid-screen
Engine oil 5w20

Looks like i will go to and indy and get a few other little jobs done at same time

Standard dealer "R" tax. They don't need anything more than any other model. The only "extra" parts that the R has is a supercharger with an extra belt drive (which isn't due till about 110,000 miles). They don't need any more oil, they don't need any specialised parts, they just rip people off because it's got more power and it makes people feel more exclusive.

My A service was around £460 (inc VAT) today, but paid for by Stratstone Manchester. The oil (5/20W Castrol Edge Pro) was shown as £128 and filter £45.

Well had the service done yesterday at Harwoods Basingstoke, all ok and £199 as agreed , got the impression I was very much doing them a favour though and that they were losing money at that rate.

Only fly in the ointment was that they used 5w30 oil on my 5.0 SC , which i was sure needed 5w20 oil , they said they use the same on all the engines including the Range Rovers , does anyone know if the recommended oil has changed??

#45 ·
On the earlier 5.0 SC, up to around 2013, JLR specify 5w20, then for later ones JLR specify 0w20.
It's not entirely clear why they changed from 5w20 to 0w20, I can only guess it's because 0w20 is a lower viscosity ("runnier") so it gets "up top" quicker from a cold start, especially in cold climates.
For my F-Type V6 (basically the same engine as the V8 but with two fewer cylinders and decreased bore & stroke) the specified oil is 0w20, however I had heaps of perfectly good new 5w20 left over from the XFR so I used it for the last oil change on the F-Type some seven months ago, and there hasn't been any problem.
Also, as I'm in Adelaide where it gets very hot in summer I don't think I need the runny 0w20 and 5w20 is probably a better bet anyway.
So, back to your oil change, it really should be 5w20 and there is a small chance of engine damage using 5w30.
I would take the car back, show them the JLR specified oil in the Owners Handbook, and insist they change the oil for 5w20 FOC.
