  • Censorship on other forums

I, and others, have struggled against heavy censorship on other forums.

I have had posts deleted that do not fit with the moderators opinion, I have had posts edited to mean something else and then the thread closed so I can't comment or correct. One thread asking about this censorship was deleted with 14 minutes of appearing (see here).

I feel the problem is not just the desire of the moderator to make the forum a big love-in or advert for the XF, but also the fact that the forum is sponsored by a dealer. This disallows free speech about both the car and the dealer, and results in many posts simply directing users towards that dealer.

We will never know how much has been deleted or changed, and we will never know about certain subjects at all.

This forum is here simply to allow free, uncensored opinion. There will be no "off-topic" - if the thread wanders then the posts will be split into a new thread. There will be no censorship of opinion, and no unsubtle ads for one dealer. In fact, no ads at all.

    Freedom!

If you know someone you think may appreciate this, please let them know.

      Pottsy..
I love your forum and I congratulate you on its creation...
At the moment I am a Mercedes owner ..
I was pointed in your direction by Alfie who used to be a Mercedes owner but has now seen the light and has an XF..
I have to say I really do like the flavour of this forum. It seems a friendly place that's full of "Normal" people...
I have over 3700 posts on one of the Merc forums and over 800 on another..
Lately I am being censored for sticking up for an elderly senior member who has been picked on by trolls..
Can you believe one of the instigators of the attacks is actually a moderator ???

Anyway I thank you for making me feel welcome on your forum..
Your friendliness will affect my choice of next car..
Unfortunately I have only had my E class 3 months and so I wont be in a position to change till March..
      My very best wishes,

      Simon Speed

      Nice post Simon.

I do find it odd when I go to other no Jaguar forums and see the way the mod just destroy what should be free speech.

I have to disagree, James. Nothing about online forums suggest that free speech should prevail.

All forums are communities, with expected standards of behaviour in communication: and it is entirely up to moderators to determine this.

There are some thread comments on this site that I personally believe contradict the spirit and 'rules' of this forum (some of the jokes in the jokes thread do not pass the test set in our site rules, for example), but I am prepared to ignore them for now.

The tone set by various comments is an indicator of community, and I see nothing wrong with a moderator maintaining this to a degree.

Moderators who are overbearing always run the risk of strangling debate and creating an environment that people simply walk away from - but ultimately it is their choice.

My personal view is that this site is over-reacting to other site activity, and is liable to give the impression that we are just a bunch of old whingers.

Better to just move on and celebrate the great communication that is possible here. But it's just a personal view that I hold, and expect others to disagree or ignore my comment altogether.

Well the forum I am talking about is a caravan forum.

Now British caravans are, as a whole rubbish. 25% are damp as you drive out the show room and within 3 years a lot of these will be right offs.
So what is said about it Nothing.
We have a forum that allows a dealer to tell us about the wonderfull water proof system they have with a 10 year garrantee but in fact it is only for the first owner, average ownership of a caravan in the UK is just over 3 years so there warrentee is less than the standard 6 years. The problem for me is the poor sod who wants to get his caravan damp problem sorted and his questions were not allowed, when I asked about the warrantee it was not allowed.
Elecsol batteries are fantastic but I can not say this this make for a forum that is just people saying nothing to each other.

At least on here, I may not agree with all that is said, I just don't , but they are free to say it as long as they don't insult some one.

On another forum I frequent, indeed was a founder of, the motto is "anything goes, everything doesn't". It works for us there. The title of moderator is pretty much ceremonial, they gave so little to do.

@Ivanov - to be honest, the threads that keep on bring resurrected and that give you the impression of a fixation have their renewed life breathed onto them by new members glad to see that shackles are not de riguer here. Us old whingers have lots of new things to focus on. Lol

A friend on another car forum who had an XF told me that I would get banned from any Jag forum if I dared to criticise the brand or say I had problems so I was worried until I found this place. He was obviously a member on the 'other forum' he had major problems with JLR over colour matching and electrical gremlins with his XFS and it really spoiled his ownership experience. He posted up to warm others and was banned....

I am a senior member of another forum and I have also been banned by you know who from another. I still contribute to both and I find that this forum is refreshing and informative and it is a pleasure to interact with people that have such a wide knowledge and have such a great sense of humor. You are to be congratulated. XBR

Pleased to find you also 'administering' this forum. I'm sure I can look forward to an excellent, fair and informative forum - the same as I came to appreciate on your forum for my other vehicle which I used regularly over the first 6 years and still rely on occasionally!

      Thank you

Well, it would be good, but he has delegated moderation to some right old characters!

Crickey. I would have been strung up and left out to dry

The fact I could post up the problems was a factor in their very resolution.
